[DMCForum] Re: Rich's A/C

Drove #5939 from Philadelphia to DC on beautiful cloudless July
afternoon with no A/C and no working side windows. Was hotter than
Corningware pot (oh wait, stainless steel DeLorean IS a Corningware
pot). Radio wasn't working either. Most miserable trip of my life.
Even worse than driving a Lincoln home one winter with leaking heater
core (the "Fog", which is really more of a slime). Fixed A/C that same
night in a friend's driveway by flashlight.

I know you're Mr. Keep It Original, but if compressor still pumps and
orifice tube not stuck, you may want to consider R134 conversion. Have
had excellent results myself, at about 5% of R12 cost. And since
you've got an air compressor now can even do a proper flush (I have to
use A/C compressor itself).

Had thought Re: fuel consumption, low power, etc -- are you sure
vacuum advance diaphragm doesn't have a hole? All 5 of my Lincolns
came with bad diaphragms. If you've got no vacuum advance, and if
centrifugal advance is stuck, you're going to have TERRIBLE
performance. Should hear all sorts of valve clatter at speed.
