That would be wrong information. I have to run 91 in my 944 and it is only a 4 cylinder, but has a 10.9 to 1 compression ratio. Octane has to do with how easy the gas would auto-ignite (think diesel), and this is what causes knock or ping (pre ignition). And it will destroy an engine very quickly. Remember just cause you don't hear the ping doesn't mean it isn't hammering away at the internals of your engine. If you want a general rule to go by, the higher the compression ratio the higher the octane. Or if you have a low compression ratio turbo charged engine, the more boost the higher the octane.
