Well, I live in Germany and heat isn't really a problem here ;-) I installed that shield 10k miles ago and no problem so far. I also painted the aluminum with silver POR15 high temp paint. Calculating it would be really professional but in my case I think it's not necessarry. If a gap is really needed, use two 1mm aluminmum sheets and separate them with 1-2mm washers.
