It is not that my social calendar is all that full, but summer in Steamboat Springs is shorter than even Toronto. (At 7000' altitude, our official growing season - hard frost to hard frost - is 69 days. Anything beyond radishes is pretty iffy.) Thus, when one's two passions are drving his DeLorean long distances AND riding his bicycle long distances, some real advance planning is necessary to take advantage of the short season.
