Re: [DMCForum] ac mode switch again...

Hi John,

Any mode switch of our design that hasn't been taken apart, cleaned &
re-lubed every few years is a likely vacuum leak.

There is nothing hard about doing this job. When you look at it you will
see how it comes apart to be re-lubed. The main thing that can go wrong
is
that if the diaphragm has been too dry & sticky then it grips which causes
the tits to shear off on the other side. Once those tits are gone then
you
either need to replace the diaphragm or be creative with glue. Not much
sticks well between plastic & rubber. But the DeLorean vendors sell nice
replacement diaphragms. Cover the diaphragm with a thin light coat of
silicone o-ring grease.

The other thing to watch out for is to not loose the screws that hold the
mode switch to the panel. One screw is longer and holds the face plate
through the panel and into the mode switch. The other screw is shorter
and
only holds the mode switch to the panel. There are issues with the longer
screw not being long enough, but if you buy a new diaphragm from PJ Grady
then it comes with a longer screw.
