Mark, My car has 69k miles and the pump died this summer. I think it was original. I agree with Martin. Preventative maintenance is important on this car but the water pump should be done if you are getting a sign that it is beginning to fail...It is a costly repair ($800+) or a labor intensive one if you do it yourself....If there is one word of advice I would give someone is not to look for trouble with this car. Whenever I start fixing something that is not broken I inevitably break it or the part next to it gets jealous, wants attention and spontaneously breaks :-). If you are replacing your water pump for the heck of it I would do a lot of other stuff while you are in that part of the car as well so you do not have to go in there for a long time....
