Andrei, The latest postings on making panels really got me thinking more about this. If you were able to make an entire door out of carbon fiber, which could be assembled using many smaller pieces, I would think the current torsion bar would probably launch the door into orbit since it should be much lighter than the stainless steel door. The carbon fiber door may need nothing more than a liner actuator or small hydraulic ram to lift it like an original door and could do away with the torsion bar completely. Your thoughts? But the structure would be close to impossible given most of our budgets. I really would not want to even attempt to make a frame that would hold up to the torsion bar.
