Hi Walt Replying from work, so don't have your original mail to hand. The problem with the fuel sender is that it doesn't have a power supply as such, so you're limited to what you can use. The original device is purely a resistive one, altering the earth point on a resistor which varies as the float moves. I very much like the way the Houston sender seals the electrics from the petrol, but I think 8 points is a bit low (although 8 relays gives you 9 increments including the light). But hey, you don't really need a truly analogue device, do you? In answer to your question Walt, I believe there are some solid state hall effect sensors which detect a magnetic field, thought I don't think they're passive devices and therefore would need a power supply. Drawing current through the guage affects the guage, which would open another can of worms. Bottom line: The new fuel tank sender works, is inexpensive, and the relays are likely to have a long life as they're hardly switching any current. Having 9 increments is more than enough to tell you how far you can go before stopping at the pumps - you just won't see the needle pointing in any direction, just ticking round like a clock :-) M -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .
