Re: [doc] Advice required - Classic Cars/Unleaded (not a DeLorean)

Unleaded started coming into used in the UK in the late 80's from
memory - with a bit of a "unleaded! that will never catch on" sneer.
My old 1.3 Astras (even the 1982 ones) would happily take unleaded
without conversion, but my Cavalier 1.8CDi (84/A) could only take it
after adjustment. Sometimes also, it was recommended in those days if
you were running on unleaded to make every 4th tankfull leaded.

Catalytic converters became 'law' and had to be fitted to every brand
new car from 1993, which also meant that all cars became fuel
injection at that point too if I remember rightly.

Mind you, I'm showing my age abit here, but in 1988 my first car, a
1978 Mini 850 used to run on 2 star petrol at £1.56 a gallon.......
last night I doubled the value of my dear old Cavalier and filled it
up with 12 gallons of Shell unleaded at £52. How times have changed
*sigh*.
