Chris Harding looked at this route on his car and came up with two problems 1) The rack assembly must be *exactly* the same length as the original, with the track rods plus rod ends being precisely the same too otherwise you'll get bump steer 2) The rack itself is to put it mildly, critical to the safety of the car. It's high tensile hardened steel and would you trust one that's been cut and re-attached, however well done? He used a non-PAS Granada rack which turned out to be exactly the right length, but 4 turns lock-to-lock. Longer track rod ends and the neat feature that the steering knuckles join up further towards the centre, neatly avoiding the coolant pipe that really does get in the way on the original RHD's.
