Sounds like it is the auto computer needs some parts replacing (capacitors mainly).
 
You have to remove the sump from the autobox to get the lot out.
 
Richard Hutchinson has re-done a couple of these. I am sure he has spare parts.

Ive had problems getting out of 1st from cold, and occasionally whilst warm, 
will change (Fairly Rapidly) from 3rd to 2nd to 3rd etc etc, utill I ease 
off the throttle, then all seems to be fine. By the sounds of what Ive 
heard, my best option is to give it a good service all round. Filter/Oil, 
and definately check the solenoids and electrics.
I hope to get it sorted (along with my brakes) before Wednesday as Im off to 
Wales again Thursday. Just waiting for some parts (Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink 
Martin & Dave!) ;^)
