Yep, 14 years and 171,000 miles as of yesterday. The BX is a good 
example of the change in production techniques with every panel designed 
as being replacable, and with the bonnet, bumpers, roof (estate) and 
boot lid (hatch) being plastic.

The Renault Alpine GTA onwards have plastic wings and bumpers all for 
crash resistance and pedestrian safety. Don't forge tthe DeLorean has 
flexible bumpers, and all these are different approaches to basically 
the same goal, which has nothing to do with build quality or cost.

In my limited experience in mechanical circles, I'll hazard a guess that 
German cars are no more reliable than French, although most mechanics 
I've spoken to all say "French cars are a bastard to work on".....
