Steve, nice to hear from you,

The burnt out one for sale in N.I. was as the result of a fire bomb.so
no fault of the car there.

The leaking fuel tank connections are just a bit of neglected
maintenance, soon fixed and as Martin says, the fuel tank is long way
from a source of ignition.

I'd be wary of disturbing the flexible fuel pipes and replace them. I
also have my engine cover light switch disconnected, in case it fails
and it overheats the light, again one did in N.I. and dripped plastic
light cover over the silencer, causing another small fire. (OK it tuned
out that there was a bigger bulb fitted than design, but even so).

I personally ALWAYS use by battery isolating switch, when the car is not
being used; this not only eliminates any battery drain, but ensures that
electrical fires cannot start.

Lastly if you went for the new "free flow" S/steel exhaust system then
this again eliminates the horrible exhaust "cross over pipe" at the rear
of the engine, which unnecessarily "heats up" all many of rubber fuel
lines etc.

Both my cars have all these mods and I am not in the slightest concerned
about fires..But I also carry a large Halon fire extinguisher in my
DeLorean's, as I do in all my cars (and Kitchen and Garages); Just in
case!!

Best regards

Subject: [doc] FIRE!

Hello everyone,

This is my first message to the gang! I have been a member since July,
and am about 40% of the way in saving for my dream D!!!(with a bit of
luck, a weak dollar, a strong pound etc etc).
Now it is looking like this could actually happen - I may one day own a
D, I'm getting a bit worried about the fire risk. After the article in
the mag this month, and, I can't help noticing, another Delorean for
sale on the Web with fire damage, do we know the reason for all these
fires? Can we do anything to protect against this happening. After
spending many years convincing my wife that this is a good idea, are we
going to burst into flames on our maiden voyage?

Anyone

cheers
