James, are you sure that any factory pull straps were leather? I have seen several pull straps, and they all appear to be made of vinyl.

Phil, I suggest only using the pull straps to help get a hold of the grab handle. If you close the door by the strap then the strap tends to tear the handle (for the D-ring variety. Black is worse, but gray tears also). And for the variety that attaches through the arm rest, those tend to pull off because they are held only with a single screw.
