The temp gauge and the fans are controlled by two independent 
sensors. 

My own car reported temperature problems due to a wide variety of 
electrical gremlins, together with *genuine* overheat trouble. You 
should be able to tell if your engine is getting that hot simply by 
opening the engine cover, but I bought a non-contact laser 
thermometer as a sanity check ~£20 from Maplins.

If the temp gauge is not grounding correctly all sorts interesting 
things happen. Try switching your ignition to position 2 without 
starting the car. Then turn on your lights, if the gauge ground is 
loose/missing your temperature indicator will raise in response to 
almost any electrical load. 

The ground point for the gauges is behind the radio (on the right 
hand side usually), I uploaded simple images to the `files' sections 
some time ago, look in the `electrical' folder. 

In my experience with `Boeing' many of the faults are often 
electrical connections which need cleaning, I wonder if Pilot25 has 
an updated wiring loom, I suspect not. I still have wires which don't 
go anywhere and don't appear on the diagrams! What do you have in the 
fan fail relay?
