RE: [doc] Best car ?

Mmmm........5 grand........I've always loved the Fiat Coupe and they are
really good value these days.  If I had to buy a city car, I'd probably get
a Smart (Pulse or Passion spec) as I drove one that we had as a px at
Renault and it was such a laugh to drive and really nippy.  Plus, if you get
bored of the colour, you just go to your local Mercedes dealer or contact
someone else who wants to swap panels in the Smart OC.  If you are looking
for a family waggon then you could go for a small mpv like the Renault
Scenic - you might even get the common rail diesel (1.9dCi) version in your
budget or a Vauxhall Zafira - although the black interior on the Zafira and
lack of a sunroof can make them a bit like a tomb inside.  I also pass a
really nice car that is for sale on someone's driveway each day on my way to
work.  It's a facelift Citroen Xantia 2.0HDi in a lovely shade of metallic
red.  Looks like a nice spec and it's a really cracking looking car and it's
on offer for only £2500.
And if you want a real bargain, check out your local MG/Rover agent!  But if
you want bomb proof reliability and something that does exactly what it says
on the tin, then get a Japanese car.  Japanese manufacturers are often top
of the pile in reliability and customer satisfaction surveys.  A Toyota
Corolla or a Toyota Avensis won't necessarily set your heart on fire, but it
won't let you down either.

Are we talking everyday, fast, exotic or sports?

You can get all of the above for that kind of money in an R33 Nissan
Skyline GTS Turbo. Japanese reliability, very playable-with, can be made
to look as outrageous or as mundane as you like (personally I prefer
mundane looks and ballistic performance), comfortable, native right-hand
drive and one of the best engines ever made.
