You took the motor out.... but not the regulator assembly??? That
usually comes out in one piece, then the window falls off....

From your description, the elbow's broken and at some point you ran it
up and kept going and it wound its spring thingy off the end of the
gear, and now can't wind it back. It's buggered, basically
