Hey James.
A friend of mine had one of those posts in his driveway. It didnt prevent people from trying to steal his car, and it ended up on top of the post! It did prevent the car from leaving though! 
I installed a garage alarm the other week to alert me of any movement in my garage. It is loud as hell and was only £20 in b+q. Hopefully it should help prevent my dmc from going walkies.

556581191.

if you put it ouside the front of your garage door, if you can get 
it close enough you may be able to stop the door from opening in the 
1st place and you will certainly reduce the chance of somone driving 
of with your car.

Probably a bit safer than chaining the car down, if you could forgot 
to undo it before you drove off you could have some interesting 
results!
