RE: [doc] OT - SAT Navigation

Virtually any system like the TomTom uses GPS signals to calculate it's
position etc. GPS signals are free to receive. Once you have bought the maps
you require for your system, there are no further charges.  Every 6 months
or so most manufacturers publish updated map CD's (usually at great expense
ie. upto £80).  It's like road atlases, you don't need to buy them every
year, but after a few years you find more and more new roads etc. and decide
it's about time to get a newer map.

About the only satnav system I know of that doesn't work this way is the
Trafficmaster one. They have no screen, voice guidance only. You get charged
every time you want them to calculate a route for you or possibly by monthly
subscription.  Only advantage of their system I think it can have the speed
camera database built into it too.

Dear All,

Something off topic here but I wanna ask, for example,
if you buy a TomTom Go Sat Navigation with GB maps
data, do you need to pay any monthly fees for the SAT
Navigation?? Or is the SAT Navigation simply free for
anyone who bought the kit??

Many Thanks,
John Tien
