Check the ligher socket is plugged in correctly - ie that the 12v
(purple) goes to the centre, and the black to the surround. If not,
it'll ground itself on the metal bracket and pop the fuse.

Why on earth do you want to change from a bullet-proof 5 speed manual
that's faster and more economical, to a 3 speed auto? The chassis would
need modifying where it mounts (going the other way you can use spcers).
Plus some of the parts required are tough to find (eg manual tranny
mounting brackets)
