I am not prepared to get into a public argument with Robert over this.

A couple of facts

1 I was asked over the weekend, by members, if such an event was possible.

2) I emailed Robert at 08.30 this morning ask for his views.

3) He replied in a very negative manner.

Greetings DeLorean owners!

I am slightly taken aback at the suggestion from Chris Parnham that there
should be a meeting held in Belfast next year with a view to driving around
the
test track. As the previous organiser of three very successful major
conventions here in Belfast I am extremely disappointed that Chris did not
have the
courtesy to discuss this with me.
The next scheduled event is planned for May 2006 to coincide with the 25th
anniversary of the car. This is a properly organised event with major
sponsorship and funding. Without certain safeguards any attempt to
replicate Eurofest
would in my opinion be disastrous.
The reason these major conventions in Belfast are well supported is because
they are held infrequently (usually every four years). Any attempt to hold
an
inferior event would damage the support to international events like
Eurofest
2001.
Chris has obviously no idea how much preparation and work goes into a
successful event, not to mention the financial aspect. Group discounts are
only
negotiable with substantial numbers, and those discounts are passed on to
the
membership. Will Chris charter a helicopter for members who want to fly
over
the test track? Will Chris take out third party insurance to cover all
eventualities? Will Chris pay for the clearing of the test track?
Where will the cars be parked overnight to ensure that vandals don't break
your windscreen, or worse still give the joyriders a field day?
I am in regular contact with the current factory management and I am sure
that they like me would have concerns regarding this DIY event that Chris
has
suggested.
I know that many new members are anxious to drive around the test track and
all being well you will have an opportunity in 2006.
