I believe I can help with this one: I think that piece of carpet is no 
longer available because of the number of owners who have had the exact 
same problem

Lesson for everyone for the future: The OEM style battery with the 
screw-in posts has the connections on the SIDE. Do NOT put the battery 
in so the terminals are on the top. (not suggesting this is what you've 
done, Phil). BTW these batts are available brand new in the UK at around 
Â80..
