Re: [doc] 'Modern' style air conditioning

Chris, I don't know if you're aware, but the roll bar mounts were the subject of more than a couple of recalls, and the "final" one is still missing on a great number of cars. If you look where the roll-bar "U-mounts" are attached to the chassis, there should be a large triangular black piece of steel that wraps around the edge of the crumple tube and extends rearwards about 8". The reason for this update was that under certain circumstances, merely driving the car could result in the crumple tubes bending. This would suggest that jacking the car on these points would be unhealthy....

I will take a photo of my car - one of the first things I invested in was this recall - being an early car, it was missing it totally.

BTW on the subject of tyres, 235/60-15's are only available in a road tyre in the Pirelli P600 now, and even Micheldever have run out. They have them on back order with Pirelli and should have more stock in a month or two. The only other road car they were used on is the early Jag XJS. The General XP2000 and the BFGoodrich tyres are meant for off-roaders......

Not meaning to keep contradicting you, Chris, but none of us can know everything.

Well it may be, a crumple zone doesn't mean its made of tissue paper!

but I've been jacking my car up under there for the last five years and its
still not crumpled!
If your car starts bending at that point, I think some serious chassis
welding is required!

I'm not saying it's the ideal place but I can assure it is strong enough for the job, and the jack will fit securely into place.

I'm going to stop sending messages to list if you lot keep lobbing over
hand grenades....don't like my paint, don't like my turbo, don't like my
choice of tyres, etc etc.
