The original o-rings WERE rounded - the fact that they came out 
flattened into the shape of the recesses in the heads showed beyond 
doubt that they needed changing.

The seal that goes into the bottom of the metering flap bit seals up 
where the idlespeed motor outlet pushes into it. It's a kind of brass 
affair with a rubber ring around the inside - commonly used in 
hydraulics and called a Dowty seal. Available in a Parker Store 
(hydraulics place) for a few pence. Alternatively, John Hervey sells a 
complete O-ring set for the whole engine. That'll save some hassle
