Dan, try this:

Where the Ballast resistors are at the back of the engine bay, take the yellow/white one from the top right and connect it via
a jump-wire or crock clip or bent paperclip (:-) to the white one on the bottom right. I might have these wires backwards (not
that it matters) - the original wiring diagram is wrong. This will put 12v across the coil and works beautifully to wake mine
up when it's sulking due to being damp. Only leave it this way long enough to get the engine warm - a minute or so - or you
can damage the coil by getting it too hot.

She kind of starts because when cranking the coil gets a higher voltage (that's what that relay on the left in the engine bay
does)

No doubt I'll get crucified for suggesting this....
