Steve, there really is nothing to explain - they are held on with screws
that go into the underbody on the front and rear edges. You need to remove
the outer door seals to get to one end and the fascia to get to the other
end.

I would suggest that the Diesel Centre would charge a lot less than Wingray.....
and they're closer too. They have already done a full system flush on Rich's
car (twice), replaced the water pump, and now they've done the cylinder head
gaskets, and have reconditioned the heads.

I have the self-bleed kit on my car now, though I did not have a problem.
If you bring the car down to me in Reading, I will go through all the electrics
for you - the problem may be related to the fans not cutting in, from what
you've said before. DO NOT run the car in traffic if it's prone to overheating.

The way the underbody was made allows for as much as half an inch in
variation in all directions. Consequently all the panels are adjustable.
All cars are different with some better than others (and Quentin's
comment about throwing a cat through the panel gaps originates here).
Play with adjusting your panels if you like - there's  good chance
they've shifted over time
