Re: [doc] Re: NEC show

Phil I'm hoping to attend, though by then the D will be off the road and getting dismantled!

AC Drive belt.... the Diesel Centre had no problem matching one up for Rich's car - give them a ring 01580 890666. (BTW I don't get anything out of it by pushing business their way, except a continuation of the great prices and service).

Angle drive..... there's a little circlip thingy which allows you to remove the angle drive from the nut - they're not reusable and I just forced mine out (it was cactus anyway and it's only the nut that's worth anything). With the drive out, you can get a large socket on the nut - we broke a quality adjustable spanner, so a socket is a MUST!

Work from the side towards the rear of the car, with the steering wheel turned full right. Use a quality wrench and a 4' extension (scaffold pole!), and get the car in the air so you have some leverage. It took several small movements to get mine loose enough to undo with a regular wrench, and I scared myself by how much the front suspension was flexing while doing it!

NB with the nut undone, the stub axle gets loose also, you have to tighten the new nut up countering the force on the main hub-nut.

Hope this helps!

After all, there's room behind the seats for a set of golf clubs, you know! No seriously, I'll hopefully be there on Sat. and Sun. doing my bit. I spoke to Dave Howarth the other day and he said he would be there. Anyone else know for sure that they're coming?

The one half of it was easy to get out (it's in the yellow cap behind the wheel) but my question now is, how do I get the OTHER half out? As I'm yet to buy a set of workshop manuals etc, I had a look on the DML archives and found people seemed to be having all sorts of fun and games undoing the big nut directly behind the wheel. Is this what I should be doing? Any help would be smashing!
