James,

I too wanted a DeLorean when I was 17 and at 18years old Chris P
took me for a spin in his RHD auto at the Birmingham NEC (in 1999)
and I was hooked. I looked at a few cars and having been to various
car shows and chatting to some of the owners I knew roughly what to
look out for. The first one I went to see I went with Martin G as he
was a bit of a buff, but the car was a bit more expensive than I was
willing to pay 11K or there about so I had to leave it. Then after
Christmas (by which time I was 19) I came across one that Martin
himself was thinking about buying and within a month it was sitting
on my parents driveway for 9.5K.
It needs some work and it's fairly pricey I had to wait for until I
was 21 before I could get insured but that gave me time to (deep
breath)
Have my headliners recovered,
New Tyres,
New Seat covers installed,
Fascias straightened and painted
New headlights with side lights,
Adjust torsion bars,
New bonnet and louver struts,
New cooling system hoses,
New door handles (well sort of new),
New windscreen wipers,
New windscreen,
New front springs,
Tighten up steering rack,
New door seals,
New bonnet seal,
Lining up of doors & bonnet panels,
New gear shift emblem,
Bumper letters,
New injectors.

Other crucial components include:

Speaker system, Remote engine starter, supposedly a performance air
filter (a soggy sponge shoved in the air intake would add more
performance!) and Neon under car lighting (standard equipment when
you live in Essex!).

And the list goes on, this weekend she still shafted me and left me
stranded at the local pub, but these cars have a mind of there own!

Go for it, it will give you ours of pleasure, pain and cost you
allot of money but it will be worth it in the end, very much like
any girl you are likely to meet! or so I have found. ;-)

James
