John, someone o fthe DML did a test on a dynamometer with the stock air 
box and a new air filter, then removed the air box altogether and the 
results showed that the engine gained less than 1hp with no air filter 
at all

Stick with the original and replace the filter regularly.

You can buy a cheap batery isolator from www.maplin.co.uk
