The final drive is number 11 in this image

The DeLorean has a 3.44:1 final drive and it was rumoured that the euro
spec cars were to have the 3.8 as it makes for better accelleration at
the cost of a drop in fuel economy. There's also much speculation
(largely on my part) that it's this difference in ratios that breaks
input shafts and eats clutches on "engine swapped" D's in the US.
Basically this will mean that the tyres break traction before the clutch
slips - something I can now do with my original clutch and a paltry
170ish hp. I don't expect the clutch to stand up to much punishment with
my new engine.

To clarify by an example - 90mph on a stock manual DeLorean tranny is
approx 3500rpm. With this box, it'll be nearly 4000rpm - though my turbo
engine revs harder and higher so it's a better match all round. It
basically brings the gears closer together, and with the extra power and
rev range, it'll have a higher top speed than a stock D anyway.

I think power steering will be my follow-on project!!!
