[doc] Re: BTTF Car

The car on eBay was done by a guy who I've spoken with a few times
called Gary Weaver.

Of the 3 cars made for the first film, two were "stunt" cars and the
third a "hero" car - both generic terms for props designed to be in
the distance and in close up respectivly. The "hero" car has the most
detail on it, and is one of the few cars still surviving in good
condition today. As far as I know it's still kept under lock and key,
I've read that it's personally owned by Speilberg himself, but I'm not
sure how true that is. At any rate, Gary had contacts with people who
could get up close to the hero car as well as email contact with the
original builders - as such, everything on that is pretty much
perfect. His own figure for accuracy is about 95% - and that doesn't
suprise me. Pretty much everything on there is right - even down to
the Time Circuit Display - which uses fake "gels" for the month
displays but real LEDs for the rest of the numbers - just like the
real thing. Gary sold the car at private auction where it sold for a
lot, lot less than it is now - I believe the person who bought it is
the one selling it now.

He's currently starting work on his BTTF2 car, one that he plans on
keeping.

Matt
