Maybe you should sell your Delorean if you do not like it. Give it a good home. Not a home where it is not loved. JZD DID have a vision. and I think he did a good job in creating that vision. I don't know anything about Bricklins execpt that I heard they leak so I wont get into that. Braided SS lines can be very abrasive. - Use a plastic or rubber liner over the SS line as prevention. - If I recall, the original instructions called for drilling holes to hold the plastic zip strips to the frame. Don't unless you adequately reseal to prevent rust. There are plenty of things to attach the line to without drilling holes. It turns out that my drivers side door does not latch down at all! Perhaps the DML needs a primer to help people get prompt, useful responses to their questions. In Iznodmad's case, the primer should have warned him to mention the condition of his door guides. My experience is that the DeLorean door design works very well, provided the doors have door guides. If the doors have no guides, or the guides were added after years of use without them, then all sorts of nasty things could have happened to your latches. You may need new ones. I thought that by the time VIN 5000 came along door guides were standard factory equipment, but I could be wrong. Regardless, anyone having trouble with their door latch mechanism will get a quicker answer if they mention their door guides (or lack thereof) in their post. If you don't even know what door guides are, go to the dmcnews.com website and search the back issues. It's a lot faster than asking online, and it's guaranteed to give you an answer. - Mike Substelny ------------------------------ message 3261 ------------------------------ http://www.eGroups.com/list/dmcnews/?start=3261 X-Mailing-List: dmcnews@egroups.com X-URL: http://www.egroups.com/list/dmcnews/ From: "Murray Fisher" Date: Mon, 20 Sep 1999 11:55:32 -0700 MIME-Version: 1.0 Subject: [DML] License Plates Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0020_01BF035F.0ACF56C0" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit ------=_NextPart_000_0020_01BF035F.0ACF56C0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" content-transfer-encoding: quoted-printable When I purchased my car, from the original owner, I noticed an extra licens= e plate sitting on the floor. However, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to accomplish that with the given straps and latch mechanism. Can anyone possibly explain how to do it over email (i.e., without the benefit of gestures, illustrations, or other visual aids). It frankly has me baffled. However, the factor carried out firther "euro" conversions such as the rear tail light cluster and indicators - which stand flush with the front bumper. As I said previously, the factory conversions all had black interiors with the one exception - they were all manuals as well, FYI except one, owned by Chris Parnham. Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi- I have been trouble shooting my newly purchased '81 DeLorean for the past few days, and happily, I have very few troubles to shoot. The most noticeable problem I have encountered thus far is the door lock on the passenger side. I noticed a 'stiffness' to the locking mechanisms when I purchased the car, but this did not seem too extraordinary for an 18 year old vehicle. I applied WD 40 to the 4 locking mechanisms I could get to (front and back latches of each door), which helped with the overall stiffness, but the front latch on the passenger side works only sporadically. I can never tell when the lock is actually going to catch (the Lock Doors light has been helpful here) but more often than not, the door won't unlock. Does this sound like a mechanical problem, or an electrical one? I believe the alignment of the doors is very good, if not perfect, but what's the best way to tell if this is what is interfering with the lock? Is a broken door lock something that is fairly easily fixed or replaced? If anyone has had a similar problem and has solved it, please drop me a line.
