XxPrimeX@aol.com I know of a place here in Australia that sells the die cast BTTF DeLoreans, as well as the plastic models, but be prepared to pay about $200 AUD for it (approx. $130 USD). I'm not sure of the scale, but I know it's roughly twice the size of a Matchbox car, yet smaller than the plastic BTTF model. The place is called Sherriff's Mini Cars, and their phone number is 61 2 4721 5925. Or you could write to them at: 83 Henry St. Penrith, NSW 2750 Australia I'm pretty sure Sherriff's still have it (I think they had two of them), because those sorts of things don't seem to sell very well...especially for 200 bucks. What you are probably thinking of is a pop-off valve, which is different from a blow-off valve. Sometimes a blow-off valve is called a bypass valve, which I think is a better name for it because it doesn't really blow off. A pop-off valve is present on some high-boost cars as a safety feature for preventing excess pressure from developing. It isn't needed on the DeLorean because none of the DeLorean turbo kits generate enough boost to need that sort of safety feature. For more information on blow-off valves, see: http://jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu/~rlg1/Preliminary.htm or http://www.retrosportusa.com/catalog/bp&bov/bp&bov.htm > Our DeLorean turbos have what's called wastegates. (where it goes into the transmission) If this is misaligned, it will cause the reverse lights to come on while in park and cause some of the other problems you are having. Jack the car up and turn the key to the 'on' position (red lights on dash come on) Your reverse lights will be on (being in park of course) and then get up under the car and nudge the cable at the transmission to the left, right, or towards the transmission. Have someone looking at your reverse lights to let you know when they go out. You should also have a bracket that holds the cable in place. If you don't, this is probably the problem. As far as rebuilt units, A friend of mine, who is an electrical engineer, helped me rebuild mine. We went with stronger components and also removed the circuit boards from the governor and mounted them in the compartment behind the driver's seat. We did this due to the heat of the transmission and the dirt and oil it collected. The unit is removable and easily repairable if needed. So far, so good. We are looking to offer this unit for sale soon. If you are interested, please let me know. But, they are talking about two different things. The blow-off valve is, as Bruce says, a boost limiter. It has been used for years on race cars. The pop-off valve is a relatively new item in the turbo world. It is, as Wilson says, used to reduce the excess pressure that buils up between shifts because of the throttle being closed. It is now offered as an aftermarket piece by several performance equipment manufacturers. I know of no one who has installed one (or two) on a DeLorean, but can think of no reason why they couldn't be so installed. Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I've noticed lately people talking about finding DeLorean items on websites such as eBay. I've used eBay for about two years and it can be a lifesaver looking for hard to find items. On the other hand I would have to say that something you could buy from one of the DeLorean parts suppliers for so much will be two or three times that on eBay. Just be cautious and make sure you are getting a good deal. Speaking of good deals... I would suggest that anyone trying to find DeLorean books to go to their area antique malls and browse around. The most famed "DeLorean: Stainless Steel Illusion" appeared on a bookshelf while I was browsing. I paid $25 for it in very good condition! Now I could sell it on eBay for ten times that much but it has been such a great investment at $25. I would urge those looking for such items to go to the antiques stores. You might get lucky like I did. Also I'm in the Kansas City area going to college and would like to meet up with any DeLorean owners/enthusiasts in the area. Any emails would be appreciated. Thanks! Grab onto one wheel and move it side to side and also try to move it top to bottom. Hear any clunking? Check the shock absorber, is it loose or broken? So if someone has already mentioned this.. oops! I was just out in Auburn, Indiana for the annual collector car auction at Kruse Auction Park- I saw two D's out there. The first was a rather normal '81 D, the other was something to behold! The sign said it was picked up at an auction in '84 from DMC's bankrupcy overseer- a bank or whatever (I'm sure someone knows). It was an '81D prototype with the sliding half-windows, gas flap, hood lines, NCT goodyears, and no air vent on the rear quarter panel. The odometer read .8 miles! Unfortunately, I became instantly stupid and forgot to take down the VIN- duh. If the D trackers want to find out more about it- VIN, how much it was auctioned for or to, etc, you can probably get that information from Kruse- Don't ask me, I know no more than I've already said... though I managed to remember to take a couple pictures.. If anyone is interested I'll send a pic out when I get the roll developed... I remember someone mentioning a sighting of such a car in a similar situation a few years back on this mailing list; I'm not sure if it's the same one... Jim VIN: 1..2..3..4..5 .... 12345! I would also like to know if engine noise throughout the Back To The Future films is the sound of the standard 130bhp 2.8 V6? It sounds more like a V8!!!! I have noticed that there is a whine when reving/accelerating. Anyone know what causes the whining? Christopher M. The front rims would have to be the same as the back, wouldn't they? erik ------------------------------ message 2872 ------------------------------ http://www.eGroups.com/list/dmcnews/?start=2872 X-Mailing-List: dmcnews@egroups.com X-URL: http://www.egroups.com/list/dmcnews/ Date: Wed, 08 Sep 1999 18:20:03 +0100 From: Martin Gutkowski MIME-Version: 1.0 Subject: [DML] Auto 0-60? Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I'm after a couple of stats. Forgive me, but I've searched the archives and although I've heard how the Auto is slower, I'm interested in how much? What is the 0-60 time for the Auto compared to the manual? When cruising at, say, 80mph (or some other convenient figure) how do the engine RPM's compare manual vs auto?
