Compared to the reception of my '87 Toyota Truck (non telescoping antenna) and my '94 Acura Integra (motorized antenna), the DeLorean windshield gets better reception. I am also located a long distance from the "local" radio stations. Far enough that the other two cars can barely receive a signal. The DeLorean can receive without any problems. Also, I recently had a rock bounce up and chip the windshield not too long ago. In attempting a repair, a crack appeared - not too bad yet. If the crack propagates and a windshield replacement is necessary, I would prefer the windshield antenna over any others offered. Unfortunately, the antenna windshield seems to no longer be an option. Maybe someone should investigate (PJG or DMCH) if "modern" windshield antennas have improved enough to compete with the other options and offer these windshields in their part inventories. I know that anyone can purchase a rear window defogger (you know, the lines in the rear window) and have it installed on a blank window (my father had this done to his car), so I do not understand why someone cannot offer an antenna that installs similar to the defogger. In order for the clear coat to properly adhere to the stainless it must be thoroughly cleaned, and conditioned with some very nasty (dangers products that contain acids and bromides). This is an extremely labor intensive and a dangerous process that must be done by a qualified auto paint shop; very expensive. Be aware that the conditioner will slightly dull the finish. If this has happened it would explain a sudden loss of freon. You will need to either bypass the low pressure cut off switch or pressure test the freon line to determine if a refrigerant loss is the cause of your problem. When I cold-start the engine, it starts in one go, but then I have to let it run for about a minute or two to let it become stable. When I start driving with it, the engine has full performance and really kicks ass. But when the engine has been running for about 10 minutes or so, there is a dramatic drop in power; suddenly the engine won't do more than 4000 RPM; and then it gets worse by the minute. Last week I had to drive home (14 Km) with a maximum of 1800 RPM (Which requires serious driving skills imho). I think it has something to do with the engine heating up and the fuel/air mixture or something with the injection system.. The strange thing is my Dad drove it for about 100 Km on the highway without any problems whatsoever. As far as I know it doesn't have any modifications like a turbo or such. Please consider that these images have been lowered in quality to shrink the file from a massive 1.2 meg down to 64k Every car is built to order and takes many hours to complete. Many materials are used including metal, before final airbrush/painting. The car is a solid display model. This dictates tinted windows and no moving parts. The detail is so intricate that you can see the tread & text on the tyres. The finished car is VERY heavy. Every DMC-12 (unless otherwise requested) is mounted on a dark wooden plaque with a genuine DELOREAN nameplate (as seen on the hoods of 1983 cars). Each customised hand-built DMC is sent out all over the world from sunny Manchester in Great Britain. I can have the model match your DMC exactly if you wish (fuel filler cap, slats on the hood etc). I have also had requests for gold and coloured cars, rather than the stainless finish. The price is extremely less than the original $12000 thought up at concept stage in the late 1970's (hence DMC-12), however the cars went for $25000 and over when finally sold in 1981. The 1/24 scale DMC's I am manufacturing are less expensive than even 1/24 of the original figure. Exclusive of recorded postage and packaging comes to £250 or $390. Alternatively unprepared and unpainted cars are available. You would get detailed instructions on how to prepare and attach the final parts such as the mirrors, exhaust system and wheels etc. Please be aware that additional sandpaper, paint and patience are required as many hours are required for completion. Without the plaque, nameplate and exclusive of recorded postage and packaging comes to £125 or $195. The stainless is a little darker in color much closer to the facia color. An interesting coincidence? When I show the 97 DeLorean next to the stock DeLorean most people prefer the clear coat. The physics of antennas and wave propagation can get very complex and technical thus I will try to keep this as simple as possible. The problem with built in antennas (like in a windshield) is that they tend to be more directive, which basically means that it may receive a radio station very well if it is in front or behind you but from side to side the reception will be seriously degraded thus when you make a turn you lose the station and may even get a new station that is now in the new reception path. A Dipole antenna or the common whip or vertical metal antenna tends to have an Omni directional reception pattern that receives (in theory) virtually the same in all directions. Note: Just changing where the antenna is placed on the car effects the reception pattern of this simple antenna, it typically would need to be placed on the top center of the car to have the most uniform Omni patter in most cases (not an attractive option in my book). The newer radio reception technology is not with the antennas but with the receivers using Multiple antennas and selecting the antenna that is doing the best job of receiving the desired radio station. All of this applies more to FM reception then AM. A relatively cheap and easy solution compared to replacing your radio and adding antennas to The car could be ( I have never used one in a car) a small FM antenna amplifier. The Antenna plugs directly into the amplifier and the amplifiers out put plugs into the radio. This makes the antenna more sensitive to weaker stations and helps improve reception. Mike D. I am not surprised with your good experience with the computer balance. It appears that the Yokohamas, which we love, are more forgiving than other brands. I think this would be a good time for me to share my experience with this alignment facility. Shortly after I purchased my DeLorean I noticed some disturbing tire wear on my factory installed NCT's associated with wheel shimmy at 55 mph and over. At less than 7000 miles I had the tires replaced by NTW, now NTB. Within the next 3000 miles the same ware patterns started to develop. During this period of time I was contracted to do consulting work with one of the local DeLorean dealerships. While working in their shop and sharing information with their factory trained mechanic he said the following when I mentioned my tire problems. "Yeah; I know what you mean. Most of the cars coming from the factory are out of alignment. We now send the cars directly to an alignment shop when they come off the truck." The alignment shop is still in business with the same owner and still does all of our DeLorean alignment work. I just paid $205 a year for full coverage, collision/comprehensive, no deductible. Liability was like $36 more for 100/300. There are restrictions. No work mileage and car must be garaged in a secure area. There are probably mileage restrictions, depending on the company. You can look in Hemmings where there are several advertised. I had a local mechanic take a look into it and sure enough it was the alternator. I had a new one installed and it seems like it is fixed. During normal operating conditions (with and without A/C) how much should the Volt meter vary? Next question....sometimes when the ventilation system is in the off position and the fan is in the off position it sounds like it is still trying to blow air but nothing is coming out of the vents. In addition to this, sometimes when I put the vent on nothing blows out of the two vents on top of the radio. When I switch over to bi-level, air circulates out of the vents. Very strange. I really appreciate all of the help that is provided by this group. You point me in the right direction and the car gets fixed. I am learning every day and love my car (which I have only had since June) even more.
