The Fender that was in Ohio last year, that was supposed to be the
"factory test" for paint colors on the stainless was interesting. It
looked more like a stain, where you could still see the Stainless grain
under the paint.
It would be my guess that the **Proper** pain procedure would look like
this.

I am confident that the Sylvania Halogen lights were the standard
factory headlights for all DeLoreans. I believe that Sylvania actually
advertised this fact in magazine ads (as mentioned in Stainless Steel
Illusion). Also, at the Columbus warehouse I saw a large stock of
never-used Sylvania halogen lights in the factory stock.
As far as I know everyone who has mounted a front license plate (myself
included) has drilled holes somewhere in their front fascia.

I also want to get in one comment before this thread dies.
If you have ever visited a car plant, you will know that painting is a
big, complex operation. It takes a large facility and a lot of
equipment to apply paint to cars and dry it properly. Part of the
genius of JZD's plan was that almost no paint was needed on DeLoreans,
so a very large expense was saved.
I know the DMC factory experimented with painting and tinting parts of
some body panels, and I can imagine that perhaps they would commission a
private paint shop to paint a whole car or two. But I seriously doubt
that they would have ever painted a DeLorean at the DMC factory. It
would not make sense.

I have been looking for a Delorean for quite a while and have been limiting my search to Florida.
The most recent one that I have looked at has some of the following problems:
1) needs new dashboard
2) carpets in good shape but faded
3) leather stickshift cover in pieces
4) driver side window motor very grindy sounding
5) small "nipple" dent in passenger side rear panel - what would force the metal out?
6) driver side door won't raise all the way
7) owner said that all transmission fluid had leaked out just before I had arrived. He said that he found a cracked hose and replaced hose and fluid.
8) most rubber needs replacing but no sign of doors leaking.
On the positive side:
1) except for the small dent mentioned above the rest of the body is perfect
2) seats are new
3) engine looks O.K. - no signs of any fluid leaks
4) car idles nicely and air conditioning is better than in my BMW
5) car drives nicely and is quite peppy - no sign of transmission problems
6) headliner perfect
7) no "obvious" sign of any rust on underside or muffler
8) all documents available and is almost a 1 owner car
9) new nice tires all around
Asking is $16,500 but negotiable.
I have gotten an opinion from one Delorean owner but would like some more feedback on how this deal sounds.

My friend and I did the shooting and we can make a couple of coppies for
people to pass around and copy for free.
No one responded to a previous post about us getting more footage to
actually edit around and mix in music. We don't have enough footage to do a
bang up job so the tape will be just how we shot it.

DeLorean One sells a stainless front license plate bracket that uses
extisting holes in the lower air dam portion of the front fascia. There
also was a factory solution. I have the DeLorean One bracket on my
car and it fits well and has not damaged the front bumper after
6 years of use.

You don't have to drill holes to mount a front plate. There are a
number of screws under the front bumper that can be used to attach a
bracket that will hold a license plate up in front of the bumber (You
don't want to mount the license plate in front of the radiator). I have
one of these on my car. I don't remember who made them, but I recall
seeing an ad for them in DeLorean World and you should also be able to
find it in the DML archives. See my web site for pictures of how it
looks.

Both cables have come off the parking brake handle. Does not appear to be
any particular reason for the cables to have come off - cable ends intact, no
apparent deformation of the latch slot and hole etcetera.
Cables are free and actuate the rear calipers. Anything that one should be
aware of???
It looks like the best way to put back on would be to remove the handle
assembly, then unfasten the mounting bracket. With the real wheels off,
remove tension at both rear calipers and then just slip the cables within the
slots and put back together.
Any advice other than the above or is that the?best? way? Any shortcuts.?

I had one of the DeLorean One stainless steel license plate holders on my
previous D. I have one on my present D which came from PJ Grady. They are
almost identical, but I prefer the PJ Grady one because it is a flat black
and is essentially invisible.
These holders place the plate right in the middle of the front bumper and
actually look quite nice with no holes to drill.
When I go to car shows, I replace my front plate with a "DMC" plate. Looks
great.

This is really not the kind of job you should do at home, or alone. If
you want to see a detailed breakdown on how to remove and repair every
part of the front suspension, take a look at the back issues of the
DeLorean Club of Oregon newsletter (in Acrobat format) at
http://www.dmcnews.com/faq/deco.htm. The series of articles starts with
issue 13. I ended up having to do something quite different to remove
the springs. At the Midas shop I conned into doing this, we used a
spring compressor tool that fit inside the spring. The bottom of the
tool was hooked to the lower arm and the spring was compressed onto the
lower arm. Then we removed the lower arm from the car, released the
spring, put the new spring on the arm and reversed the procedure. We
could find no way to compress the springs from the outside. The
compressor tools the shop had would not fit into such a small space with
so many obstructions.
After you change the springs, get the car aligned. There is no camber
adjustments but the caster will change with the new lowered
position of the car. This is all a lot of work and the springs are not
cheap but the results are well worth it.The car 'looks' right,
visibility
improves and so does the overall handling.

I'm just using cheap self-adhesive pads to hold my front license plate
on, and they hold it there fine! Hot water removes any trace of them,
should you need to remove your plate. I got 'em form Halfords (UK), but
I'm sure every motor shop in the world must have them!?
Far less hassle than having to find plate holders or (wince!) drill any
holes.
That seems a bit too obvious and I've a growing feeling that I've missed
the point. Sorry!

hello,
I recently found a Delorean that was tipped over in grand Rapids
Michigan. I saw it at a insurance agency but it doesn't look to good. The
hood,both doors, front window, drivers side window etc are wrecked. I am
going to go take a closer look at and see if they would possibly sell it.
What do you think a good price would be? They might not even sell it. I
will try to take a few pictures of it and put them on my site. My friend saw
the interior and said that it had a lot of dirt in it from the rollover I
guess. I know that a DeLorean was tipped over at Michigan State recently but
I do not think that this is the same "D".
any replys would be greatly appreciated

bought had an asking price of $16,500 as well. I actually wound up paying
$16,000 My DeLorean has 7,500 miles. The interior is like showroom new,
The body is perfect except for a ding the size of a pinhead, And the frame
and underside are like new. The car runs great and basically looks almost
like it is brand new. I think the DeLorean you are looking at is a little
high. Although I think I got a great deal on my D I think you should not
limit your search to Florida. I live in NJ and at first had the same
intention of finding a D in the area but I wound up buying one I found un
Michigan. It was WELL worth the trip out to pick it up. Go to DMC Houston's
website and get prices on the parts you need such as the dash which is very
expensive. Then expect to spend another thousand or two to do the factory
upgrades and receommended repairs if they havent been done. I would try to
stay away from any sun damaged interior D's as they usually wind up costing
more to restore than a D with a nice interior would have cost you. Hope this

Don,
Hi, this is Kayo.
I do believe that Sylvania was the DMC factory's issued headlights.
As far as front plates, I suggest that you don't drill the bumper to
accommodate the plate. There is no need for the drilling. Drilling won't
hold the plate permanently. It won't stay and ruin the bumper. What you
should do is to fabricate a front plate holder bracket, or buy one from the
DeLorean parts houses, (Rob from PJ Grady has them. I think for under $40?).
To fabricate one is easy. It requires cutting to the pattern, three simple
bends, six holes to be drilled and paint it black. If you don't have the
time or facilities to make one -- buy one. The material will cost under
$10. More likely $5. Or you can get a piece of "scrape" metal. Just cut,
bend and drill to shape, paint it black and mount it. Once mounted you will
not see it, unless you kneel or lay on the ground. Total time to fabricate
one is under one hour. After the paint dries, mount the bracket and plate
onto the car will take under 20 minutes.
Whether you make or buy one. Mount the bracket onto the car's front bumpers
using the four hold down bolts. Next, mount the front plate onto the bracket
holder using two license bolts. Plate should be mounted by the two bottom
holes. I would not suggest drilling and screwing the other two bolts into the
bumper that holds the "upper holes" of the plate. (This will defeat the
purpose of the front plate bracket.) What you can do, is used double
mounting tape in between the plates and bumper. This will be strong enough
to prevent movement of the plate and it will also make the installation non
permanent with no damages to the bumper. You can remove the tape with spirit
based cleaner, it will not harm the bumper to restore the original looks.
I have mounted my front plate onto my car in a same way, but a different
position. I have used the plate holding bracket unit. I mounted the plate
by the upper holes of the front plates onto the holes of the bracket, thus
lowering the plate. This will not give the front plate any support and it
will hit and scrape the ground. What I did do to the bracket to give it
support, was to bend the bracket's plate base to a "steeper angle." (You can
double stick tape the bracket to prevent flopping. I have silicone glued my
bracket into place -- more sturdier.) The plate will have a steeper angle
when mounted. This greater rake angle will make the plate streamlined with
the car's lines and will clear the ground. Mounting it this way also
prevents other vehicles from banging into the front plates when they are
backing up. No dented or mangle plates. If you wonder how it looks, just
ask and I will e-mail you a picture of my car with this setup since the DML
site can't display photo.

Thank you very for the info of support. I knew of this but I could not get
the supporting info.
There are many "other" frills and options that are not listed with or
recorded by the DMC -- for what ever the reasons.
Again, this problem is not only with DMC marque but with many other marques
as well.
I have a car with the same controversy, it is not a DMC. It is from a
different marque. Every time I order parts -- guarantee to get the wrong
parts. Why? One must depend on the chassis's serial number. The
manufacture quotes info from this serial number. The Owners' Club of this
marque, they quote another. My mechanic who has been employed by the company
and working with my type of model and the other different models of motorcars
from this marque has quoted different info on the car. He works on this
marque and no other given him total dedication to the cars. My mechanic is
more correct and right then the company and the club.
Anyway the out come???? The answer? Still the same, no correct answer for
what ever the reasons of poor or no record keeping. Authorization was given
by the company, but the poor record keeping makes it difficult to follow and
trace all the modifications or options with the cars.
