Now I KNOW it doesn't! Any thoughts as to where to look? In trying to evaluate electrical problems first, I noticed that the red wire to the compressor is bundled with a white/orange wire that goes NO WHERE. Should it? Looking at figure 95 of the Workshop manual (section N:10:13) didn't help much! Can anyone tell me the wire color code & where to find the lookup for the numbers next to various parts? I'm guessing #9 is the compressor, but what are switches #7 & #8 ? Last week I took a 1000 mile round trip to Potsdam NY, my first *long* trip in the D since I've owned it. These kits are composed of stainless steel reproductions of all the vinyl labels found thru out the car. They are brushed SS, acid etched and baked enamel lettered. These are some of the best pieces I've ever seen and can vouch for the fact that these are extremely top quality. Matter of fact, these pieces are so nice, I'm not going to put them on my car, but frame them and put them on display. If you need details on how to get the air out of the system, you can go to my webpage for details.(under tech tips) You need to bleed the system from the bleed screw located on the thermostat housing. Also, pressure test the system. It should hold 15 psi for 15 minutes. If it doesn't, start looking under the car for coolant escaping. If your thermostat is bad, water will not get to the left side of the engine where the temperature switch is and the fans will not come on. When the car is heating up, feel the pipe on the left side of the engine compartment. If its scalding hot, then water is getting to that side. (you'll know) Another thing you could do is to jump the wires going to the thermal switch. This will make the fans run constant. If your D cools with the fans running constant, you could have another bad temperature switch. You may not be air bleeding the system properly. Try this test. Start the engine (AC off ) and let it idle, as the temperature rises the cooling fans should turn on before the temperature gauge reaches 220. The fans should run continuously. Within one minute after the fans turn on the temperature should begin to drop. If the temperature continues to rise past the 220 mark rev or gun the engine six to eight times, if the temperature begins to drop there is trapped air in the coolant lines. Let me know what happens. The very good and excellent road cars are priced 13-17k. If you are looking for a car in collector's condition or even concours, you will probably have to go 17-25k. There is a standardized scale of rating car quality. It uses numbers 1 though 6 to describe increasing car value. A one is a parts car. A 6 is a concours car. I would rate my DeLorean at a 4 or 5, and I paid 14,000. This means that the vehicle is decent enough to win an occasional prize in a show, but lacks those little things that prevent it from the 100-point mark. The red AC compressor wire joins up with the white/orange wire from the oil pressure sender at the rear of the AC compressor. The oil pressure sender is located on the engine left rear bottom just above the catalitic converter. I have researched well and all dealers know that for a mint DMC the going rate is $15,000. I have found a brand new DMC from 1981 that has never been titled. The wire color I had pulled off the bottom of the micro-switch was actually a purple color not black. The black/green wire is the wire connected towards the top of the micro-switch. Ok, now I pulled the black/green wire from the micro-switch and the car started to run a little rough and surge, no rev up. Same result as removing the other wire previously. If you are low on freon the compressor will cycle on and off every 5 to 7 seconds or less. If your freon level is very low the compressor will not cycle at all. The white/orange wire should be connected to the oil pressure warning light sender. Unfortunately a wire code was never documented for the DeLorean electrical system. Additionally N:10:13 has no ID's for the legends. FYI # 9 is the compressor # 7 is the low pressure cut off switch and # 8 is the high pressure cut off switch.
