I was hoping it would be the least costly of all the items I listed!! To your response David, I don't have specific readings but for the NOX readings, the applicable standard is 3.0 grams/mile and the Delorean is putting out 5.4 grams/mile. The other readings were: Hydrocarbons (HC) .10 g/m (standard is 2.00 g/m); Carbon Monoxide (CO) 1.3 g/m (standard is 30.0 g/m) The car was fully warmed up for the test. The car runs fine -- perhaps a bit hesitation when cold but nothing really major to be concerned about. While the NOX reading is not excessively high, if all that is required is a tweak of the air /fuel mixture, that makes me happy. Is this something I should attempt or just take it to the professionals? Later is was decided that a larger firm should be employed so the project was moved to Creative Industries where the second prototype was built. Both of these prototypes were built under the watchful eye of Bill Collins. When the decision was made to sign with Northern Ireland for the production of the DeLorean, Bill Collins and company moved to Norwich, England (about 100 miles northeast of London) after JZD signed a deal with Lotus to further the development of the car. Colin Chapman (founder of Lotus) and Collins didn't get along and Collins later resigned. Under the direction of Chapman, Lotus built at least another 18 DeLorean prototypes. All of these prototypes were built in the image of the full scale epoxy-wood model created by the Ital Design studios under the direction of Giugiaro. Later a full scale pine model was built by Design Caucus. Some of the prototypes were used for pre-production promotion and advertising (such as the C&D article). Some were used for crash testing. Where are they? Who knows? Certainly some were scrapped, but others are probably still around somewhere. Most are probably still in England. Maybe a contact with Lotus may bring results. Give it a try and let us know. Regular steel wool will leave tiny particles behind that you can't see.....until it rains or gets wet and then you will have tiny brown spots all over that you CAN see. If you use either stainless steel wool or ScothcBrite NEVER brush or rub using a circular motion. Always move in the direction of the "grain" of the surface you are working on. There are also professional "restaurant" grade SS cleaners out there that work quite well. A brand that I use regularly with really good results is "TR***Stainless Steel Cleaner Sealer" made by TR Industries of South Gate, CA. (I don't know if this brand is still available.) These types of cleaners/sealers can usually be found in a good restaurant supply store. The company is called Python Corporation, and their number is 1-800-959-2865. My mechanic says that he's used them before, they rebuild the fuel distrbutor on his Porche, and he says they do good work. An original mint right-hooker might well go in the UK for 25,000. Of course, the price is a little lower because we ARE allowed to register and drive left-hooker cars here. Supply and demand: there are about 16 original right-hookers in the world, and I think the general consensus is that these cars lived at the factory as an "experimental" vehicles (for euro-spec conversion and even bodywork repair practice) hence there are not many factory-original right-hookers in mint condition... The steering doesn't feel loose but the clunky sound is definetly there. I had the tie rods ends replaced but have yet to get an alignment. The steering doesn't pull but the wheel does shimmy a bit. I want to get the tires balanced but NOBODY in southern Maine does on-the-car balancing. Any idea? Pardon the pun. Be aware that Scotch Brite comes in many flavors, and if you go with the wrong one, you will be disappointed. The green one, I feel, works the best. I tried the blue pad, because the store was temporarily out of the green, and was sorely disappointed. (Mainly sore in the triceps, and joints.) I was on the way to a car show when I picked up the blue pads, and luckily I still had a used (well used) green pad, and it got me through the day. I now own an "award winning" DeLorean, having taken second place. What a chore it is to keep fingerprints off of the stainless while waiting for the judges to come by. WO!
