There was very little if any negative press. The only negative was a David E. All publicity was in the US office nationally, and from UK and elsewhere. All was most positive for the first on line production car in 50 years. The only other negative was from a writer named Jones, who wrote a short piece more as a criticism of JZD than the car. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address moderator@dmcnews.com ------------------------------ message 1597 ------------------------------ http://www.eGroups.com/list/dmcnews/?start=1597 X-Mailing-List: dmcnews@egroups.com X-URL: http://www.egroups.com/list/dmcnews/ From: sundiver@discordia.org MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <19990705205839.DLPH4651@delorean> Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 09:27:36 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [DML] Re: alternator replacement... Is this difference noticable in driving, and/or acceleration times? If that is the case, wouldn't the best choice be to chose an alternator that is marginally stronger than the stock alternator, and justt sufficient, rather than doing the >110 amp overkill? Efren Hicks is a 16 year old who recently acquired a DeLorean and wants to "Live the Dream" like the rest of us.   The car is a 1983, that the previous owner was in the process of restoring.  A lot of things are part way done, such as the facias.  (The rear is completely re-done, but the front is badly sunburned and warped.)  The interior has been almost completely removed, and many replacement parts are in boxes (headliners, new binnacle, etc.)  I have seen the car and it appears to be 90-95% complete.

But the main trouble is the transmission (5-speed, manual).  It's not broken; it's not there.  At all.

The story is that the transmission was sent out to be rebuilt.  While it was at the shop, the shop owner declared bankruptcy and the contents of the shop (including the transmission in question) were seized as assets.  Where this transmission is now, no one seems to know.

What Efren needs, then, is a complete 5-speed transmission.  DMC Houston appears to have one in stock, but it would be over $3,000, with tax and shipping.  This is a budget buster for a 16 year old.  So, if there are any of you with parts cars that would be willing to part with a 5-speed transmission for a price more in line with Efren's budget, please contact him:    marty_mcflyjr@yahoo.com

Vince sold the car before I could get the car inspected and I would love to speak with the person who bought it. I think he said the new owner was from Connecticut. If anyone knows anything about this car please contact me privately. Mike D. The only thing exclusive about the system is the location of the components. Standard diagnostic and repair techniques may be used. So tell your mechanic to do whatever he would do if he were working on an early 80's GM car. PS: I have no recollection of a DeLorean AC system ever being clogged. If you are certified then: you should do the following. If you are only wanting to check and charge the system then you will only need to use the low side. Hook up your gauge. The gauge should read about 83 pounds of presser(when the a/c is turned off). Now start your car turn the A/C on max cool. The gauge should now read 40 pounds of presser NOTE:( do not put more than 40 pounds in your system you will run a chance of locking up your compressor.) If your system reads less than 40 pounds then add r-12 slowly to the system being careful not to over charge it NOTE: you will need to charge and check the systems presser on the low side. The only time you should have to use the high side is when recovering r-12. Just a reminder when connecting your gauge be QUICK because freon will escape when you are hooking up to your line. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address moderator@dmcnews.com --WebTV-Mail-18659-4660 Content-Type: message/rfc822 content-transfer-encoding: 7Bit content-disposition: Inline content-type: Message/RFC822 Received: from mailsorter-101-1.iap.bryant.webtv.net (209.240.198.97) by postoffice-293.iap.bryant.webtv.net with WTV-SMTP; Thu, 15 Jul 1999 16:32:46 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: Received: from md.egroups.com (md.egroups.com [207.138.41.139]) by mailsorter-101-1.iap.bryant.webtv.net (8.8.8/ms.graham.14Aug97) with SMTP id QAA15474 for ; Thu, 15 Jul 1999 16:32:44 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [10.1.2.1] by md.egroups.com with NNFMP; 16 Jul 1999 00:26:11 -0000 Mailing-List: contact dmcnews-owner@egroups.com X-Mailing-List: dmcnews@egroups.com X-URL: http://www.egroups.com/list/dmcnews/ Reply-To: dmcnews@egroups.com Delivered-To: listsaver-egroups-dmcnews@eGroups.com Received: (qmail 11499 invoked by uid 7770); 15 Jul 1999 22:29:08 -0000 Received: from qh.egroups.com (HELO qh.findmail.com) (10.1.2.28) by ivault.egroups.com with SMTP; 15 Jul 1999 22:29:07 -0000 Received: (qmail 21166 invoked from network); 15 Jul 1999 22:29:07 -0000 Received: from mu.egroups.com (207.138.41.151) by qh.egroups.com with SMTP; 15 Jul 1999 22:29:07 -0000 Received: from [10.1.2.7] by mu.egroups.com with NNFMP; 15 Jul 1999 23:29:07 -0000 Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 15:29:00 -0700 From: jrobbins@brit.ca To: dmcnews@egroups.com Message-ID: <7mlnbc$1tgi@eGroups.com> User-Agent: eGroups-EW/0.74 X-Mailer: www.eGroups.com Message Poster Subject: [DML] air conditioner Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit My air conditioner on my 81 DMC cuts in and out, probably indicating a low charge condition. The worst case would be water in your system that may have frozen in your cap tube. But that would be removed when he did a "thorough" pump down of your A/C system. When mechanic performs a thorough pump down he evacuates both the high and low side of the system at the same time. When you say the guage rockets when he went to add freon means he did NOT thoroughly evacuate the system or he has the guage on the wrong port on the compressor. I am assuming he knows to charge the system in the low side port of the compressor. Both ports on the DeLorean compressor look the same. I am a little concerned why your mechanic opted to pump down the system (vacuuming) first rather than just add more freon. I am also assuming he has checked all of the electrical and mechanicals of the system first before opening the freon system and they are all working. Anyway, the chance of a A/C system getting plugged with dirt are about 1/2% and that would be only if somebody had the system open or the filter/dryer unit collapsed and was sucked into the cap tube. Unfortunately the suitability of these turbos will depend on how similar the DMC manifolds are to the Volvo manifolds that the kits are designed for. I don't know the answer to this question; they may, or may not, actually fit. The same thing holds true for the high-flow catalytic converter. If, on the other hand, you were to find a source for forged rods/pistons/crank (which are, I think, guaranteed to fit), a lot of performance people looking to turn up their boost might be real happy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address moderator@dmcnews.com ------------------------------ message 1619 ------------------------------ http://www.eGroups.com/list/dmcnews/?start=1619 X-Mailing-List: dmcnews@egroups.com X-URL: http://www.egroups.com/list/dmcnews/ From: "Steve Rice" References: <7mnbit$ag1m@eGroups.com> Date: Fri, 16 Jul 1999 18:09:31 -0500 Subject: [DML] Re: information about 82 dmc purchased in NY Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit This is a verry interesting story because the D used in The Wedding Singer was also missing the logo on the front grill.
