It must be the tire type that makes the difference between rub and no rub. My car was (and is) at stock height. What kind of tires are you using? IMO, slightly oversized tires look better on a non-lowered De Lorean! We tighten the wheel lugs on the Ford Ranger trucks we build to 135 nm which translates to more than 100 ft lbs. A good pneumatic impact gun can easily exceed 150 ft lbs and in the hands of an unassuming tire changer could easily cause problems to the lugs and alloy wheels. The DeLorean uses only the lugs to locate the wheels. There is no flange on the hubs to fit into the wheel center. When you brake lugs you can be in a lot of trouble. The rears are 4"x10" coaxial Craig "Power Plays". The stock speakers in my car were not broken, but sounded really muddy. I replaced the fronts with Boston Acoustics 3.5" coaxials. I replaced the rears with 5"x7" Polk EX coaxials. These fit with very minor modifications. It actually uses the stock mounting bracket, the only requirement is that two of the mounting holes should be cut into slits, so that the bracket moves slightly upward, pivoting on the third screw. They sound great, and can handle the power that most new stereos put out. I also mounted an amp, and a 10" subwoofer in the compartment behind the driver's seat (no permanent modifications). If anyone is interested in details, please email me. The system sounds very balenced, and produces a clean, well staged performance. I've had my Delorean insured with Hagerty for over five years now and I HAVE filed a claim. The insurance company was very insistent about paying me for the claim. I was having trouble finding someone to remove a tiny dent in the stainless. A month or two passed from the time I notified Hagerty about the damage and they told me to get some type of estimate, even if it was to remove the panel and ship it to where-ever for the repair, just so they could settle the claim. I thought that was more than fair. I've been reading the archives (yes reading the entire archives) and I'm only up to Apr '96 so if the answer to my question is in there forgive me. When I take my car for a spin and then pull it into the garage- my entire garage stinks of raw gasoline for a day! There is no gasoline leak that I can see. Someone in the archives had a simlar problem and was recommended to look into replacing his O2 sensor. A little more info may help- the car has ALWAYS had this smell since I've owned it (last August). It idles quite rough (never stalls though) and in general feels underpowered (but then again I'm not sure what a normally operating DeLorean is supposed to drive like). To me, it seems like the engine is getting too much fuel and not enough air to explode correctly in the cylinders. After driving the car for a while park it outside, on a day with no wind, and put your sniffer to work. External leaks will usually leave a wet look in the area of the leak. The most common fuel leak areas are the fuel filter, accumulator, and pump connections. He patented a *VERY* unusual engine unlike the world has ever seen not too long ago... 2) The company name is still secret. So is the official project name; it is not the DII (D-Two) or Firestar 500. This is what I can tell you: The car will weigh around 1500lbs. and go 0-60MPH in around 3 seconds. It will be available in ragtop convertible with swingout doors (normal) or gullwing sedan. There is a slight chance that around 100 cars will be made with stainless steel gullwing bodies, if so plan on spending at least US$45K on one. The normal models should sell for around US$22K. ...but DeLorean is always changing all of the specs for the car, just like he did 20 years ago! So who knows what the future brings. It cost less then $7.00 with the housing or $4.00 for the inner cable. All you really need is the inner cable! The inner cable is the same material and you can cut it to length. My problem was that the fuel pump boot was not inst= alled properly, and the gas was seeping out onto the top of the gas tank. I= didn't see a leak either. But I smelled it. So open up your trunk, and tak= e off the cover over the gas tank and you'll see your fuel pump. Take off t= he hose clamp and inspect the boots on the pump to see if they are good. Th= ey might be old and require replacement. Then again, the one that is on the= pump just be out of alignment. Check it out.
