Most dealers have little idea what a DeLorean is worth. I bought my D from a dealer, and he sold it very reasonable considering its low mileage, 6301, and excellent condition because he thought parts were non-existent. Check out "Hemmings Motor News" to see what is available and what individuals are asking. I think when you actually go and see these cars that are described as "mint" for under $15000 you will be sorely disappointed. Mint condition is one of those terms that people who know very little about cars throw around to attract buyers. Beware and take a hard look at a D before you buy it. If you think anything above $15000 is too much for a D, check the latest NADA guide to classic and exotic cars. I believe you'll be surprised. I'd like to know who has a 0 mileage D still in the plastic for $20000. The 12th version of the car was the one that went into production. This is not to imply that it was the 12th prototype as all of us know there were only 3 of those. I believe it was William Haddad's book that addressed this and specifically refers to a DMC-10 and a DMC-11. Also, I thought $16000 was the target price for the DeLorean, which still would have put it $3000 under the Corvette at the time. I don't believe the bus would go for $80000. There was also a sedan in the works, the DMC-24 and a truck, the DMC-44. I'm not sure where the numbers came from for the truck and the bus. But it's hard to believe a pickup truck would be priced at $44000 dollars in the mid to late 80's when it was supposed to be released. If anyone knows about the badging for the truck and sedan, I'd be interested in finding out. The car runs great. Stats: '81, auto, black int., approx 30,000 miles. Price $16,500. Location: W. Pa. A bit of history, the former (second) owner invested a huge sum of money in restoring this car not long ago. Including his purchase price he invested somewhere in the $30k range. This includes trucking it to DMC in Houston for a restoration consisting of a complete new interior and seats, the DeLorean notices, and also the updates i.e. hoses, alternator, etc. Acccording to Warren at DMC, several thousand was spent on that visit. Since I have owned it I have put close to three thousand in it. For example, I had the engine gone over by a local volvo mechanic, the warmup regulator replaced, and the air conditioning completely revamped (almost a thousand spent on that). All the steel is in great shape. It has the rare flap hood. Has new rear quarters (scratches). The rear gray fiberglass repainted. New hella headlights installed. Reason for selling: I want a convertible or older porsche 911 and cannot have two sports cars. If anyone has an 86 or newer vette conv., a 55-57 T-Bird, or a circa'87 - '89 (earlier if completely rebuilt) porsche 911 let me know and I will consider a tax saving trade. I have some brown stains on my grey dash.  It is n= ormally = covered by a dashmat and looks fine but was wondering if anyone has ever be= en = able to get these stains out.  The rest of the dash is fine and looks = great... no cracks etc..

That day was today. I purchased my '82, VIN# 10014, from Jim Hall here in Arizona. He was the original owner, the car looks great, and I took over with a healthy 20,410 miles. I'd like to thank you all for the wealth of help you have already provided and will certainly provide in the future. The D deserves a community like you guys. I'd also like to thank James Espey, who came out and took a look at my car with me before it was mine last month. After taking a look at the car, James told me "you probably won't get a car that nice." That quote sticks in my head today. I put over 100 miles on the car on my first day with it, and everything went well, with the exception of one thing: the steering wheel shook considerably when I applied the brakes; the level of shakiness in direct proportion to the amount of pressure applied to the brake. I hope it's nothing more than a slight brake problem. I look forward to getting together with the other local owners soon, and meeting the rest of you sometime down the road (literally). The owner did this because he "Didn't want to get locked in his car like Johnny Carson". The doors were able to be locked and unlocked manually using the levers on each door while the driver was inside the car.. When exiting the car, the key would have to be used to lock the doors individually. Does this seem like a good solution to prevent one from getting locked in their car (without spending the money on new solenoids and a lockzilla) Has anyone else tried this? I have not been able to use the car since and operated the A/C only when driving it home from the shop where it was worked on. While testing it, the "Cooling Fan Fail" light would come on every 5-7 seconds accompanied with a clicking noise. However the air was very cold coming out the vents. Is this a sign of low freon as DMC Joe says? I had asked the technicians if the freon level was okay and they said yes. Have I been fooled? They also managed to mess up my headlights/parking lights, they don't work anymore; except for the brights when I pull back on the lever. Ideas for that one? The only com= pany I can find to insure me was Sureterm and they quoted me =A31500 on a l= imited mileage, garaged, fort knox enabled 1981 'D'. This is way beyond what I first imagined it would be! My 1994 Calibra Turbo= (which is a group 18 insurance here in the UK) is only =A31000 (I am after= all only 20 years old!) and I cannot justify the expense..not just yet any= way. If anyone knows of a company that might be able to help a young enthus= iastic 'D' lover I would be ETERNALLY grateful! Hello everyone!

You can make a handy dandy oil drain wrench for about $3-$8 and a little time. It's just a 8mm square drive. Go to any decent hardware store or farm supply and get a 12" piece of 5/16" square steel stock. If they have a shorter piece get it, but 12" is a standard length. Standard steel stock in this area is about 99 cents for a 12". I got good tool quality for $3. 5/16" is about 7.9mm and will fit the plug just fine. Also get a 3/8" 12-point socket in 3/8" drive. Make sure it is a 12-point! Doesn't need to be *great* quality, just good. Mine cost about $1.50. Stick the 5/16" square stock in the socket before leaving the store to make sure it fits reasonably well. Not too much play. This is where having the 12-point socket comes in. A 12-point socket can be used on either standard hex bolts, or the old fashioned square headed bolts from pre-WWII. We're just using this to our advantage. With the square stock inserted into the socket take a pencil and mark it so that about 3/4" sticks out of the socket. Cut it off with a hacksaw. You can either use it like that, or use a good metal glue like JB Weld to glue the steel piece into the socket. I glued mine so it wouldn't get lost so easily. Use a good metal glue or it will come loose every time you use it! Won't hurt anything as the glue doesn't do anything but hold things in place, but it is annoying! Just use a 3/8" drive ratchet with this and you've got an oil drain wrench for the life of your D.
