Different Strokes for different folks! I've got a stainless "D" and a Blue "D"
if I had to give one of them up, I'd say bye bye Blue. Don't get me wrong, I
love the car but there's nothing like a nice shinny stainless "D" cruising
down the road. If I get a scratch on the Blue "D" I'm SOL, but if I get one on
the stainless "D" I go to Kroger and get a Scotch Brite pad & six pack.As far
as catching attention, it's the Blue "D" all the way. Plus when I go to
Cleveland next year I'll be able to find the Blue "D" in a parking lot full of
stainless.Six in one, half dozen in another. I say just get what you like.

Sam,
The problem is 1. In the switch (as Joe said), 2. wiring between switch and
motor, 3. Or it maybe that the window track is not lubed enough. I had this
problem once. I would hit window switch and see voltage drop on dash but no
window movement. Took panels off the door and lubed window track volia the
window went up and down perfectly. (Note I had already swapped switches from
drivers side to pass side.)Before lubing I was ready to buy a new window
motor. This might not work in your case but do try all steps (switches, test
for current in wires, and lube the window track). Good luck. By the way
search back issues to find correct way to take door apart (if needed). Its
not hard if done right. Its a nightmare to just remove stuff and try and
figure out how it all works when reassembling.

Thanks for the correction.
The question NOW, is whether Dan's DeLorean car is acceptable as an "original
painted" car with all who associates with the DeLorean marque.
Why? Was Dan's DeLorean painted "prior" to delivery? Was it ordered or
requested by the original owner and the work performed by the DeLorean's
dealership? If it was, the this car should now be considered as an "official
and authorized" because it was done by the DeLorean's dealership.
The bill of sales from the dealership should reflect this as paint job as an
"option" during the sale and before delivery of the car. If the this option
is documented on the original bill of sales as an option, wouldn't this make
this as an "official painted car"? So, now what is the standard as being
official?
Many of these "unusual requests" as "options" has always been a debate with
other marques as well. They are NON FACTORY options, but the dealerships all
do it to satisfy the customer and their sales.
Well, what is your opinion? This has always been an interesting topic.

Below is a brief outline of an upcoming show here in NJ. I contacted one of
the organizers of the show. She informed me that DeLoreans are welcome and
that if there is enough of any one make or model they will be given their own
class. It is a first annual show I believe and it sounds from the
description I was given that it should be a great show to attend. I know
myself and some other members of DeLorean Mid Atlantic are making plans to
attend. Hope to see some other DeLorean owners and enthusiasts from the
area there.

he used to run the parts warehouse. He often can get or has parts which others do not.

JZD has been trying to start a new car company ever since DMC closed down.
While I would be first in line to buy a car like that, I don't think it
will ever be built. First, these things have been rumored in the papers
for a couple of years now, but there hasn't been any incorporation of a
company, selection of managers, or anything like that, at least that I
know of. While JZD could probably design the car all by himself (I mean,
he hasn't had anything else to do for the past ten years or so besides
fight legal battles) he can't build it himself. He needs a factory,

another big loan (good luck), or he'd need to have someone build the car
for him. Isuzu might be a good choice, they built some cars for Lotus a

I also don't think the car would turn out anything like what it's rumored
to. It is just plain difficult to shoehorn a big engine with the
requisite suspension, braking, chassis, etc. to stand up to it into a
1,500 pound car. That's Indy-car territory, and those cost a million
dollars. The only street car accomplishing anything like this is the
McLaren, and they cost a million dollars, too. If it happens for $18,000,
or $38,000, I'll buy one, but I don't think it could be done for less than
ten times that, maybe a hundred times. Lotus has built some cars of that
weight, but they cost a fortune, and have less power than JZD wants in his
new car.
Consider what happened with the DMC-12, it was going to be a 2,200 pound
car faster than the Corvette for half the price. It turned out to be a
2,750 pound car, considerably slower than the Corvette, and cost more.
If the same thing happens to the car he's trying to build, well, it'll
still be a good car, in a market currently occupied only by Mazda's
excellent Miata, but it won't be everything it's supposed to be. Concept
cars rarely are, when they're actually produced.
On the other hand, he could buy a Geo Metro and drop, say, a 300-HP Mazda
rotary engine in it. Total cost, about $18,000, plenty fast, weighing in
at just about exactly 2,000 pounds. :} It is possible to build extremely
light, cheap cars, but you might not like what you get when you're done.
:} Something would have to be done about the styling, of course. I wonder
how much it would cost to convert one of those for gull-wing doors? :}

Roof cage rusting is extremely rare, in 14 years we have only seen two cars
with this problem. As you had mentioned it looks as if your roof was not

Ralph,
We have installed hundreds of struts and have extensive experience with the
door mechanics. One of the characteristic of different brands of struts is
their "damping factor". i.e.: the strut slows the speed of the opening
action just before the strut goes to its maximum extension. This prevents
damage to the lower lift brackets. We have found that re-charged struts
have little or no damping factor.

Sam,
The original motors had drive gears that will occasionally crack, when you
push the button or shock the motor the gear will turn a small amount and
than jam. The only fix is to replace the entire regulator with the greatly
improved replacement units from one of the DeLorean part suppliers.

I've added a few more pictures to the Painted DeLoreans website, and made
the type a little easier to read (thanks, Moritz!). Please stop by to

Also, if you have pictures of a painted DeLorean you'd like to share with
everyone, please e-mail them to me, along with a note of permission for
posting them to the site! So far the cars on the site are overwhelmingly
red -- I'd still like to see some more black cars, and perhaps that yellow

You have my sympathy. This can be a very difficult situation,
especially if a passenger of the fairer sex is trapped in your
DeLorean! You probably need to get inside the door and adjust the
linkages.
With luck, your problem might be that either the lock linkage or the
latch linkage has worked its way to a marginal area where they no longer
reach far enough to do their job reliably. You might be able to coax
them by pushing the inside lock rocker hard, pulling up on the door
handle, and rapping the lower part of the door with your fist. It might
also help to have someone outside pulling up on the bottom of the door
(not the handle).
If this does not work, then you need to get at the door's inner
mechanism with the door closed. It is not easy to remove those panels
while the door is closed! The previous owner of my car did it, and
damaged soft foam material around both inner door handles in the
process. The upside of this unfortunate event is that on my car it is
fairly easy to get inside my doors when I need to.
Unfortunately, to get at the mechanism in question you must remove the
BOTTOM inner door panel, which is the trickier of the two. Both panels
are held in place by rivets and nylon christmas tree clips, but the
bottom panel is also held in by that foam around the pull handle.
A few questions:
Does your car have door guides? Some early DeLoreans, like mine, did
not. If you don't have door guides you might have a damaged latch
mechanism, which could make opening that door difficult even if you
access the inner mechanism. Can you tell if the door is held closed by
just one latch or both? This will tell you which linkage(s) need to be
adjusted.
I just replaced a latch yesterday (damaged by 18 years without guides),
and now both of my doors are fully functional. But tonight I will be
getting inside and fine tuning the linkages, which have slipped a little
bit over the years.

My DeLorean was built in May of 1981, which means that this month is its
18th birthday. In many states that makes her old enough to date men.
It would be fun to hold a Coming Out Party for my DeLorean, but if I did
my wife would surely have me psychoanalyzed if not committed. So I will
confine myself to quietly sharing with my DML friends that, for me at
least, this is a noteworthy occasion.
Does anyone else with an '81 or early '82 DeLorean want to get together
for a few drinks in Saint Louis this October? We'll call it a Debutante
Ball. If your car shows up without a chaperon I won't be responsible
for whatever happens to her. :-)

Yes, my roof was not even close to being sealed, perhaps because my car was
made close to the end. I've sealed the wire looms, access hatch, and screw
holes around the access hatch. The door hinges were aready sealed. Is
there anything else that should be sealed? What about the section
perpendicular to the roof cage, should I be worried about that?
I'd also like to know if my doors really are supposed to slightly touch the
T-panel when opened or if they need to be adjusted.

I think you are probably confused. The Tucker Corporation offered a
special set of luggage for the unusually shaped Tucker trunk, and so did
Mercedes for its 300 SL Gullwing coupe.
This would be a great aftermarket product for an enterprising DMLer,
though. I would love to buy a set of special luggage for my DeLorean.
In case anyone cares, I think the wedge-shaped toolboxes that a few of
us use as DeLorean luggage (Tuff Case) is no longer available. Ssee

Dan,
I am not sure if this statement is true. I maybe wrong, but as I remember
there were a few cars painted by the factory. One of those cars was issued
to a member of Mr. JZD family? I maybe wrong, anyone out there with more
info on this car or the other factory painted cars?
Again, on the same type of topic but a different subject are the factory's
turbo cars. e.g. the #502. Was this car built for Mr. JZD? He did use it and
it was factory turboed. There were several others turbo cars produced
besides #502. One of the owners of the factory's turbo car didn't even know
its history when he purchased his DeLorean. (Did the seller know the
history?) So he lucked out, when he brought the pristine DeLorean, then he
found out it was a "factory" turbo, and not an after-market unit.
Incidentally, I think Rob from PJ Grady has the another "Legend."
Many older and non existing marques has troubles to keep up with their
factory's records and their production records. Since DeLorean closed it
factory in the worst way -- bankruptcy and Mr. JZD entertaining his case with
the US judicial system. I imagine they had the lost control of their
operations and records. This is why it is difficult to pin down info on
specific cars and their factory options, whether it was painted, turboed,
different engine, different interior and etc.
These cars are real with these features, but the documentation's on these
cars are difficult to pin down.

I bought my DeLorean new from a Porsche dealer and when I bought it he had a
lot full of '81 and '82 DeLoreans . On the show floor was a Black DeLorean
that the dealership had painted to see if that would enhance sales. I think
it would be in the same catagory as conversion vans as far as being accepted
as a completly stock DeLorean. I don't think one could consider it factory
original.

When building the 97 DeLorean we noticed that the roof brace had become
unglued from the fiber glass body shell. This made the door too
flexible in their mounting. By putting bolts and reinforcement plates
underneath, this problem was fixed and better engineered.
Your problem may also be partly related to over torquing of the door
torque rods in combination of the above or as the cause in the first
place.

Recently in a sales catalog called DuPont Registery had for sale in it the
one and only Delorean Coyote from the old 80's tv show Hardcastle and
McCormick it was on sale for something like 110 thousand but did not see and
is now down too 99 I think.It came up for sale in Cedar Rapids in Iowa my
home state. The adverts have recently stopped I wondered if someone bought
it and who. Also does anyone know when that 100 best cars in the DuPont is
coming out.

3. with large pliers pull on rods that open the latch see if maximum
travel is achieved. (sometime rusted or defective solenoid restrict
monvement.

Three days ago my drivers door would not open (I was inside). I drove
home, climbed out the passenger door then attempted to open it from the
outside. I had previously had a bit of difficulty with this door
unlocking, but not sure if this is related. Anyway, I pulled up the door
handle and with my other hand, pulled up the door itself.
It opened but the mechanism apparently would not open correctly and
pulled the front striker came out. The striker mounting bracket is now
loose, and stripped, so I will have to find how to replace that. But my
big question is: what caused it? A bad door mechanism? Locking problem?
The rear one seems to work fine. And how can I tell? I want to replace
the correct part.
Also, if I have to change the door latch, are any of these parts crossed
referenced to other makes?
By the way, still looking for a new, old style AC accumulator.

Now, with the title saying "Black", my source told me he sold DeLoreans with the title saying "Black" in reference to the color of the interior. He did this with both black and grey interiors. A little misleading (to be sure) but not unet
The only real options available on the DeLorean was the tranny. Auto or Stick. And the color of the interior.

I've had my front wheels balanced twice now and I still feel a shimmy
between 55 and 70 MPH, once I hit 88 it goes away:-)
I've tried a different set of front wheels I borrowed from a fellow "D"
owner and get the same result. I am assuming this is not normal for this
car. There does not appear to be any excessive play in the steering or
the wheel bearings. The shocks seem to be in working order without any
leakage. I have noticed different road conditions have an effect on the
amount of shaking in the steering wheel. I just drove from Virginia up
to visit family in New Jersey this past weekend and the car ran
perfectly except for the shaking in the front end.
Any tips would be appreciated...

Hi y`all on the DeLorean Mailing List,
As this is my first post to this list, i`ll introduce myself. My name is
Simon, i`m a 28 year old PVC window designer, living in a sleepy little
town in the centre of Northern Ireland.
I guess i`m just on this list to hear all the gossip about the world`s
most beautiful car, manufactured right here in our little country, but
also, to tell a little ironic tale which happened to me a few days ago.
Living in N.Ireland, a lot of people i encounter on the Net, believe that
there are quiet a few DeLorean`s driving around here, but sadly, that ain`t
the case. Having been a fan of the car since its launch, i never actually
got to see a real one, that is until i decided to plan a visit yesterday,
to The Ulster Transport Museum, just outside of Belfast. I knew there was
one on show there, along with a prototype (circa 1980), so i planned a
quick trip over with my fiancee (better late than never huh!). That was
yesterday, Sat 8th. But heres the irony. Having waited since the early 80`s
to see this elusive car, i wandered out of our local pub on Friday
afternoon, only to find a DeLorean, parked on the street. California
plates, but no flux capacitor ;). *Bliss*. Even managed to get a
photograph. Two different DeLorean`s in two days huh. Not bad for someone
who waited 20 years.
Out of interest, i have a sister who lives in Dunmurry, right in front of
the old DeLorean plant (now "Montupet"), and my eldest sister did a bit of
legal work for a company called "Coopers & Lybrand", who represented
DeLorean after their demise. She even managed a drive around the test track
at Belfast in late 1982, just as the last remaining cars were being shipped
to the US. (she only went there to leave off some documents, a friendly
mechanic chauffeured her around the track :)

Sounds like you have "all the bases covered".
The doors slightly touching the "T" panel is OK. To correct this problem
you do not adjust the doors you adjust the "T" panel.

The Delorean Car Show "YEAR 2000"
Will be held in Cleveland Thursday June 15th thru Sunday June 18th Year 2000
There are many activities besides the car show including a dinner at the
Crawford auto aviation museum, The awards banquet at the Great Lakes Science
center, A lunch on the Goodtime III, and discount tickets to the Rock and
Roll Hall of fame, and an evening cruise around Cleveland. The car show will
be held between the Rock and Roll hall of fame and Science Center on that
Saturday.

I am confident that the Sylvania Halogen lights were the standard
factory headlights for all DeLoreans. I believe that Sylvania actually
advertised this fact in magazine ads (as mentioned in Stainless Steel
Illusion). Also, at the Columbus warehouse I saw a large stock of
never-used Sylvania halogen lights in the factory stock.
As far as I know everyone who has mounted a front license plate (myself
included) has drilled holes somewhere in their front fascia.

The Fender that was in Ohio last year, that was supposed to be the
"factory test" for paint colors on the stainless was interesting. It
looked more like a stain, where you could still see the Stainless grain
under the paint.
It would be my guess that the **Proper** pain procedure would look like

I also want to get in one comment before this thread dies.
If you have ever visited a car plant, you will know that painting is a
big, complex operation. It takes a large facility and a lot of
equipment to apply paint to cars and dry it properly. Part of the
genius of JZD's plan was that almost no paint was needed on DeLoreans,
so a very large expense was saved.
I know the DMC factory experimented with painting and tinting parts of
some body panels, and I can imagine that perhaps they would commission a
private paint shop to paint a whole car or two. But I seriously doubt
that they would have ever painted a DeLorean at the DMC factory. It
would not make sense.

You need to check a few things. Does that door have door guides? Now
that the door is open, see if the forward latch operates the same as the
rear latch. With the latch in its closed position, hold a screwdriver
where the striker pin would be and try to open it. Then pull the handle
(with the door unlocked) and try again. Obviously the latch should
release now.
If the latch appears to be working then it probably is not closing
properly. It is possible, especially on cars without door guides, for
the latch to jam against the striker pin when the door closes.
Sometimes it opens fine, other times you are a prisoner.
If the latch is not working but also not damaged then you probably have
some loose linkages inside the door. You need to get inside the door
and check the lock linkage and the latch linkage. They can be adjusted.
If the latch is damaged then you probably need to replace the latch,
like I just did.

This would be nice to know decades from now, when I have to search the
junkyards for a DeLorean latch, but for now new latches are still
inexpensive from the normal DeLorean parts sources. I got mine last
week from DMC Houston, and I think it was $60 or less. Check their

FYI the linkage attaches to the latch via one of two holes in a nylon
bell shaped pivot. On my old latch the linkage was attached to the
closer hole, but when I installed the new latch I found my door worked
much better if I used the farther hole.

Im sure the Cleveland show will be just as big of a success as the Cincinnati
show was. I have a question about last years show. During the show I was told
that videos would be made (of the competition and the convoy to the warehouse). I
remember the camera men doing some crazy things (hanging out the back of moving
cars etc). I would like a copy of these videos. If anyone knows where i could

I have been looking for a Delorean for quite a while and have been limiting my search to Florida.
The most recent one that I have looked at has some of the following problems:
1) needs new dashboard
2) carpets in good shape but faded
3) leather stickshift cover in pieces
4) driver side window motor very grindy sounding
5) small "nipple" dent in passenger side rear panel - what would force the metal out?
6) driver side door won't raise all the way
7) owner said that all transmission fluid had leaked out just before I had arrived. He said that he found a cracked hose and replaced hose and fluid.
8) most rubber needs replacing but no sign of doors leaking.
On the positive side:
1) except for the small dent mentioned above the rest of the body is perfect
2) seats are new
3) engine looks O.K. - no signs of any fluid leaks
4) car idles nicely and air conditioning is better than in my BMW
5) car drives nicely and is quite peppy - no sign of transmission problems
6) headliner perfect
7) no "obvious" sign of any rust on underside or muffler
8) all documents available and is almost a 1 owner car
9) new nice tires all around
Asking is $16,500 but negotiable.
I have gotten an opinion from one Delorean owner but would like some more feedback on how this deal sounds.

DeLorean One sells a stainless front license plate bracket that uses
extisting holes in the lower air dam portion of the front fascia. There
also was a factory solution. I have the DeLorean One bracket on my
car and it fits well and has not damaged the front bumper after
6 years of use.

You don't have to drill holes to mount a front plate. There are a
number of screws under the front bumper that can be used to attach a
bracket that will hold a license plate up in front of the bumber (You
don't want to mount the license plate in front of the radiator). I have
one of these on my car. I don't remember who made them, but I recall
seeing an ad for them in DeLorean World and you should also be able to
find it in the DML archives. See my web site for pictures of how it
looks.

This is really not the kind of job you should do at home, or alone. If
you want to see a detailed breakdown on how to remove and repair every
part of the front suspension, take a look at the back issues of the
DeLorean Club of Oregon newsletter (in Acrobat format) at
http://www.dmcnews.com/faq/deco.htm. The series of articles starts with
issue 13. I ended up having to do something quite different to remove
the springs. At the Midas shop I conned into doing this, we used a
spring compressor tool that fit inside the spring. The bottom of the
tool was hooked to the lower arm and the spring was compressed onto the
lower arm. Then we removed the lower arm from the car, released the
spring, put the new spring on the arm and reversed the procedure. We
could find no way to compress the springs from the outside. The
compressor tools the shop had would not fit into such a small space with
so many obstructions.
After you change the springs, get the car aligned. There is no camber
adjustments but the caster will change with the new lowered
position of the car. This is all a lot of work and the springs are not
cheap but the results are well worth it.The car 'looks' right,
visibility
improves and so does the overall handling.

Both cables have come off the parking brake handle. Does not appear to be
any particular reason for the cables to have come off - cable ends intact, no
apparent deformation of the latch slot and hole etcetera.
Cables are free and actuate the rear calipers. Anything that one should be
aware of???
It looks like the best way to put back on would be to remove the handle
assembly, then unfasten the mounting bracket. With the real wheels off,
remove tension at both rear calipers and then just slip the cables within the
slots and put back together.
Any advice other than the above or is that the?best? way? Any shortcuts.?

I'm just using cheap self-adhesive pads to hold my front license plate
on, and they hold it there fine! Hot water removes any trace of them,
should you need to remove your plate. I got 'em form Halfords (UK), but
I'm sure every motor shop in the world must have them!?
Far less hassle than having to find plate holders or (wince!) drill any
holes.
That seems a bit too obvious and I've a growing feeling that I've missed
the point. Sorry!

hello,
I recently found a Delorean that was tipped over in grand Rapids
Michigan. I saw it at a insurance agency but it doesn't look to good. The
hood,both doors, front window, drivers side window etc are wrecked. I am
going to go take a closer look at and see if they would possibly sell it.
What do you think a good price would be? They might not even sell it. I
will try to take a few pictures of it and put them on my site. My friend saw
the interior and said that it had a lot of dirt in it from the rollover I
guess. I know that a DeLorean was tipped over at Michigan State recently but
I do not think that this is the same "D".

Don,
Hi, this is Kayo.
I do believe that Sylvania was the DMC factory's issued headlights.
As far as front plates, I suggest that you don't drill the bumper to
accommodate the plate. There is no need for the drilling. Drilling won't
hold the plate permanently. It won't stay and ruin the bumper. What you
should do is to fabricate a front plate holder bracket, or buy one from the
DeLorean parts houses, (Rob from PJ Grady has them. I think for under $40?).
To fabricate one is easy. It requires cutting to the pattern, three simple
bends, six holes to be drilled and paint it black. If you don't have the
time or facilities to make one -- buy one. The material will cost under
$10. More likely $5. Or you can get a piece of "scrape" metal. Just cut,
bend and drill to shape, paint it black and mount it. Once mounted you will
not see it, unless you kneel or lay on the ground. Total time to fabricate
one is under one hour. After the paint dries, mount the bracket and plate
onto the car will take under 20 minutes.
Whether you make or buy one. Mount the bracket onto the car's front bumpers
using the four hold down bolts. Next, mount the front plate onto the bracket
holder using two license bolts. Plate should be mounted by the two bottom
holes. I would not suggest drilling and screwing the other two bolts into the
bumper that holds the "upper holes" of the plate. (This will defeat the
purpose of the front plate bracket.) What you can do, is used double
mounting tape in between the plates and bumper. This will be strong enough
to prevent movement of the plate and it will also make the installation non
permanent with no damages to the bumper. You can remove the tape with spirit
based cleaner, it will not harm the bumper to restore the original looks.
I have mounted my front plate onto my car in a same way, but a different
position. I have used the plate holding bracket unit. I mounted the plate
by the upper holes of the front plates onto the holes of the bracket, thus
lowering the plate. This will not give the front plate any support and it
will hit and scrape the ground. What I did do to the bracket to give it
support, was to bend the bracket's plate base to a "steeper angle." (You can
double stick tape the bracket to prevent flopping. I have silicone glued my
bracket into place -- more sturdier.) The plate will have a steeper angle
when mounted. This greater rake angle will make the plate streamlined with
the car's lines and will clear the ground. Mounting it this way also
prevents other vehicles from banging into the front plates when they are
backing up. No dented or mangle plates. If you wonder how it looks, just
ask and I will e-mail you a picture of my car with this setup since the DML
site can't display photo.

I had one of the DeLorean One stainless steel license plate holders on my
previous D. I have one on my present D which came from PJ Grady. They are
almost identical, but I prefer the PJ Grady one because it is a flat black
and is essentially invisible.
These holders place the plate right in the middle of the front bumper and
actually look quite nice with no holes to drill.
When I go to car shows, I replace my front plate with a "DMC" plate. Looks
great.

bought had an asking price of $16,500 as well. I actually wound up paying
$16,000 My DeLorean has 7,500 miles. The interior is like showroom new,
The body is perfect except for a ding the size of a pinhead, And the frame
and underside are like new. The car runs great and basically looks almost
like it is brand new. I think the DeLorean you are looking at is a little
high. Although I think I got a great deal on my D I think you should not
limit your search to Florida. I live in NJ and at first had the same
intention of finding a D in the area but I wound up buying one I found un
Michigan. It was WELL worth the trip out to pick it up. Go to DMC Houston's
website and get prices on the parts you need such as the dash which is very
expensive. Then expect to spend another thousand or two to do the factory
upgrades and receommended repairs if they havent been done. I would try to
stay away from any sun damaged interior D's as they usually wind up costing
more to restore than a D with a nice interior would have cost you. Hope this

Thank you very for the info of support. I knew of this but I could not get
the supporting info.
There are many "other" frills and options that are not listed with or
recorded by the DMC -- for what ever the reasons.
Again, this problem is not only with DMC marque but with many other marques
as well.
I have a car with the same controversy, it is not a DMC. It is from a
different marque. Every time I order parts -- guarantee to get the wrong
parts. Why? One must depend on the chassis's serial number. The
manufacture quotes info from this serial number. The Owners' Club of this
marque, they quote another. My mechanic who has been employed by the company
and working with my type of model and the other different models of motorcars
from this marque has quoted different info on the car. He works on this
marque and no other given him total dedication to the cars. My mechanic is
more correct and right then the company and the club.
Anyway the out come???? The answer? Still the same, no correct answer for
what ever the reasons of poor or no record keeping. Authorization was given
by the company, but the poor record keeping makes it difficult to follow and
trace all the modifications or options with the cars.

The state that I live in is New York State. Upon filling your registration
form and all the info on the registration card will reflect the same. They
list the weight, seating capacity, doors, color, type of fuel, manufacture,
year, model, owner/s, address, registration fees and more. If one info is
out of line, be ready for troubles if the officer is on the rag.

I'm convinced that not all DeLorean wheels were perfectly round or mabe
it's the way tires bead to those rims but I've had similar problems all
through the years that I've owned mine. I finally found a great tire shop in
my area that balanced them on the car. While doing this they discovered run
out that they couldn't get rid of no matter where the tire was rotated on
the rims. They trued the tires with a machine that removes a slight bit of
tread where the high spots were and rebalanced them on the car. The result
was a smooth as glass ride. One of the problems is that, with the rear
engine configuration, the front end is pretty light on this car and it's
susceptible to more minor balance problems than most front engine cars.

Mike,
Wow !, this is a first. I wish we could have helped you out sooner and
showed you how to release the door by removing the upper trim pad. There
are no crossovers for the door RH STRIKER MOUNTING BRACKET part # 105568.
There are four possible causes for this problem.
1. Door lock system out of alignment.
2. Malfunction of the door lock module.
3. Door latch system out of alignment.
4. Vehicle not equipped with door guide update.

The DeLorean suspension is a high performance racing type suspension which
will not tolerate any alignment or balancing inconstancies. The average Pep
Boys/Goodyear dealers are not equipped to provide this high degree of
service. Alignment shops that advertise performance or racing alignment
service are usually equipped to do "on the car spin balancing"
The advantage of this system is that the dynamics of every item in the
suspension system becomes part of the balancing procedure insuring much
better results. So call around and insist on an "on the car spin balance".

Yes, the Sylvania halogens were factory installed.
All DeLoreans were shipped with a license plate bracket for mounting a
front plate. This bracket did require three holes to be drilled into the
front bumper to
accommodate fasteners for the plate bracket. There is a stainless steel
after market bracket that does not require any drilling. It is available
from some DeLorean parts suppliers. DeLorean One stocks this item as
D100110 in stainless. PJ Grady also has one in black.

DeLoreans were equipped with two different style jacks, one had a crank
handle part # 110037 the other hat a large ratchet handle, part # 108607
Both of these items maybe available from one of the DeLorean parts
suppliers. We don't know of any other jack that will fit in the jack
compartment.
Low silhouette "screw" jacks will do the job. As far as a ratchet bumper
jack; that is out of the question.

Technically speaking,Delorean was working on painted Deloreans,but not
"painted Deloreans" as such he was working on translucent cars,ie so that the
stainless steel finish showed right through the paint,sorta the same way as
stained wood,you see a color,but you also could see the natural wood grain
finish,from what I understand the pigments in the "paint"could not hold up to
the elements and failed miserbly,and as far as I know none of those cars were
ever released to the general public.

and without being able to put the rubber pad under the spring,I would rate a
front spring change only to those people that have extensive knowledge of
Deloreans and the right equipment (which was the only way I was able to get

Not to beat the painted Delorean thread to death, but Delorean
Motor Company service bulletin # ST-02-2/82 says "While DeLorean Motor
Company has test painted three vehicles which are very attractive, we
have not yet completed adhesion or durability testing." The bulletin is
signed by William A.Charles, Director, Service/Parts.
No comments about what colors were used, although there are painting
recommendations from Sherwin-Williams, PPG/Ditzler and DuPont.

My car wouldn't start for a couple days, today I finally got to look under
the dash (now I know where the inertia switch is!), but that wasn't it. Got
the book back out and checked the fuse for fuel pump/lambda, it was toasted!
One side had actually melted a bit. When started the "lambda" light never
comes on, could there be a problem here that i need to look for?
Also my fan blower still doesn't work (help, it's hot weather!), and I need
a window switch. Anybody have one for sale? Thanks!

I just searched the backissues and was surprised to find that no one has
asked about using the new, high tech 5 year antifreezes in DeLoreans.
Does anyone have an opinion on this?
A mechanic friend has been very consciencious in reminding me that the
DeLorean was designed to have its antifreeze changed every year . . .
possibly two years if the car is lightly driven. He cautions me that
even in storage the aluminum protective ability of antifreeze disappears
in 2-3 years and engine/radiator damage comes swiftly as the coolant's
acidity changes.
This might partially explain the alarming number of DeLorean radiator
failures I have seen discussed here.
The new "long life" antifreezes could be a wonderful help to us.
Costing only about $1 per gallon more than old fashioned antifreeze,
this stuff sounds like a terriffic bargain. As I understand it
Prestone's 5 year antifreeze is now standard on new GM cars.
After carefully reading the label, I found no mention that this stuff is
guaranteed for aluminum engines. They promise "five years of protection
for aluminum radiators." Almost every car has an aluminum radiator, and
I can get 5 years out of ordinary antifreeze in my iron-engine Chevy.
What about my aluminum engine DeLorean?
I called Prestone's consumer information line (800)-862-7737 but they
only gave me exactly the same information that the label had.
I am inclined to believe that the new antifreeze will give my DeLorean
five years of worry-free protection, and I am ready to run out and buy
some immediately. If any DMLer knows differently please post a caution
for all of us!

The Lambda light comes on every 30,000 miles as a reminder to change
your sensor, period. The light is "dumb" in that it does not actually
know the condition of the Lambda sensor or any other part of the Lambda
system.
What fixes have you tried for your blower problem?

I remember talk here on the DML of a DMC used by a drug dealer on Miami Vice
but only can find one reference to Miami Vice in the back issues. Does
anyone know which episoed the DMC was in? The title of the episode, what it
is about, the episode number, air date any thing like this will help.

First the caveat - if you don't know what you're doing and/or are not comfortable with the danger, leave this to a suspension shop. That being stated:
I have replaced my front springs as well, and did not see this to be quite as much trouble as described. The secret, as usual, is the use of proper tools. The absolute best tool is a Snap-on spring compressor, very hard to find and expensiv
I used a McPherson Strut (2-piece, 3-finger) compressor, installed upside down from the normal use. Whatever you do, do NOT try and use a 3-piece compressor. I believe that this is illustrated on Knut's document, but I had a lot of trouble
I'll try posting a picture of how this goes together tomorrow - I'll have to get the photo to scan.

I thought maybe the light should come on briefly when started, like a temp
or charge light.
I tried fuse for the blower circuit. A few times the fan would be working,
then quit after a few miles. Lately it hasn't come on at all. Also sometimes
the charge guage is dead, sometimes it will read (if that has anything to do
with the fan circuit?). When it went to the show, we had to jump it, the
guage never moved, but it started at the show, so I assume it is charging.

As most people will already know I worked in the D M C plant in Belfast
even before it opened, I was there to the day it closed.I saw the first
Delorean to come of the Assembly line and I also saw the last Delorean
come of the Assembly line.
Now let me tell you there NEVER was a Delorean made inside or outside
the Plant that was PAINTED never! and it was ME that painted the White
letters on the Fender,
and there were only Ten of those.
I was incharge of any Painting done at the Plant,that consisted of Walls
Windows & Doors.
The D M C.plant never experimented with Painting and tinting parts of
any body parts
as Mike Substelny said,we were to busy assembling Cars.
Also, they never ever had an idea of coating the Delorean car with
Liqueur.
Any Painting that went on in or outside the Plant I new about it.

I received this message about problems with mailing lists from the
TidBits Mailing List, and while it is quite lengthy, I would hope that
everyone would take a few minutes and read it. If everyone (or even MOST
everyone) would follow these suggestions, the list would be much more
readable and useful.

Here then are the main behaviors that I would encourage for all
mailing list participants. If you're as bothered by the problems
in mailing lists as I am, feel free to refer others to this
article for advice.
**Write Carefully** -- I realize that I risk sounding like a
pedant here, but in cases like this, I don't care. Writing skills
in the general Internet populace stink, which means you can make
yourself look even more intelligent and thoughtful than you are by
writing well. Good writing isn't difficult, and requires only
grammatical sentences and proper spelling. You don't need to be a
professional writer or be able to make words flow trippingly off
the tongue.
You should also follow a few basic rules when writing email:
* Don't use all capital letters for more than a word.
* Insert a blank line between paragraphs.
* Surround URLs with angle brackets to avoid problems at line
breaks.
* Don't use text styles (like bold or italic) or text colors in
mailing list messages, since many people won't see them and may
even see HTML tags instead.
**Quote Sparingly** -- One of my peeves with mailing lists is that
people seldom delete unnecessary quoted text in their replies,
with the worst being people who reply to a message in a digest and
quote the entire digest. Quoting sparingly does require manual
work, since most email programs automatically quote the original
message in replies. But failing to edit the original wastes
everyone's time and bandwidth.
In some email programs, you can select some text in the original
message, press a keyboard shortcut, and have only that text appear
quoted in the reply. (Eudora for the Macintosh does this with its
Command-Shift-R shortcut.) Other email programs assume that
replying with some original text selected means you want to quote
only that text.
Especially problematic are email programs that quote an original
message by appending it to the bottom of the reply with no quote
marks in front of each line. That prevents inline replies, since
there's no easy way to differentiate original and new text, so
users of those programs tend to leave the entire original hanging
off the end of the reply. That's fine in private messages, but in
mail destined for a list, it's just sloppy. Unfortunately, the
only solution to this problem is to switch to a different email
program
**Avoid Junk Messages** -- Another complaint about people's
behavior on mailing lists revolves around "junk" messages. I'm not
talking about spam, since spammers aren't constructive members of
a mailing list. Instead, junk messages fall into the following
categories:
* Unsubscribe messages mistakenly sent by subscribers who didn't
read (or locate) the instructions for leaving the list. Every list
goes to lengths to simplify the process of signing off, and yet a
large number of people still send unsubscribe messages to the list
itself. Read and save the welcome message you receive when you
subscribe to a list, then refer to it when you want to
unsubscribe.
* Me-too posts sent by well-meaning list members replying only to
convey that they agree with a message or had a similar experience.
A Web-based poll is a better way to take votes on a topic.
* Welcome messages that appear when someone new joins the list. No
one on a mailing list needs to read "Glad to have you on the
list!" from everyone; send such messages to the new member in
private mail.
* Congratulation messages that appear after a member of the list
has mentioned some milestone or personal triumph. Again, send
these in private email.
The moral of the story is simple: Avoid sending junk messages to a
list. They're easy to identify as you type - just ask yourself if
the message would be of interest to the majority of the mailing
list. If not, that doesn't mean your message is worthless: the
original sender might appreciate being welcomed or congratulated
via private email.
**Write Descriptive Subjects** -- When you receive messages from a
mailing list, the first thing you see is the subject line. Which
of these subject lines would you rather see on a mailing list
devoted to, say, tropical fish?

Unless your telepathic powers are better than mine, the first
subject line tells you nothing. So, the first rule of subject
lines is to make them descriptive.
Another problem affects primarily digest readers. They see an
interesting message and want to reply, but when they do so, their
email program uses the subject line of the digest (Tropical Fish
Digest #251) rather than the subject of the message. That leads to
messages being sent to the list with useless subject lines, since
the title of the digest is rarely descriptive. There's no good
solution to this problem, although two mediocre workarounds exist.
* Copy the subject line from the message to which you're replying
and paste it into your reply's subject line, prefixing it with
"Re:". This is effort well spent.
* Have the digest sent as a MIME digest and use an email program
like Eudora Pro that can separate the digest into individual
messages in a mailbox. The problem goes away then, but, for some
people, so does the point of receiving the digest version of a
list.
Sometimes you want to reply to a message but change the topic of
discussion. When you do that, you should change the subject line;
if you don't, people following the thread will be confused when
your message doesn't match its subject. Some people (and some
programs) indicate when they've changed a subject line by
appending "(was <the original subject>)" to the new subject.
That's acceptable but results in long and unwieldy subject lines
that work badly in list archives.
On the other side are people who change the subject lines on every
message they send. That's equally problematic, since it prevents
list members from reading (or sorting) messages that are related
by a shared subject line.
If you create descriptive subjects, maintain the correct subjects
if you're a digest reader, and change subjects only when
appropriate, you'll be well on your way to being admired as a
paragon of list etiquette.
**Use Short Signatures** -- My final gripe about mailing list
postings is that many people have long signatures at the end of
their messages. Email signatures are useful, but mailing list
signatures should be kept to a minimum. This is especially true
for lists that have digests because the signatures can take up a
significant portion of the digest. For instance, messages with
long signatures sent to the moderated Info-Mac Digest are rejected
with a note asking the person to resend with a shorter signature.
Many email programs let you switch between multiple signatures,
but you have to remember to do so for each message. There's a
trick you can use in Eudora Pro (but not Eudora Light) to switch
signatures automatically when you're replying to messages that
come from mailing lists. Follow these steps:
1) In the Signatures window create a shortened signature for use
with mailing lists called "Short signature." Your name,
affiliation, email address, and URL are all that is essential.
2) In the Personalities settings panel, create a personality
called "Mailing list signature." Fill in the Real Name and Return
Address fields, and select the "Send mail whenever sends are done"
checkbox. All the other fields can be blank, and the checkboxes
related to checking mail should be deselected.
3) Switch to the Personality Extras settings panel, leave the
Stationery pop-up menu set to None, and choose Short signature
from the "Signature when not using stationery" pop-up menu. Click
OK to save your personality settings.
4) Open the Filters window. In filters that move messages from
mailing lists into specific mailboxes, add a Make Personality
action, and from the Personality pop-up menu, choose "Mailing list
signature."
You've created a signature for use with mailing lists, connected
it with a specific personality that differs from your dominant
personality only in the default signature setting, then created a
filter that automatically assigns that personality to incoming
messages from mailing lists. Now, whenever you reply to a message
from a mailing list, Eudora Pro knows to use your mailing list
personality and thus your mailing list signature. You'll still
have to choose your mailing list signature manually when sending a
new message to a list, but all replies will use it automatically.
**Ridin' that High Horse** -- I freely admit that there's nothing
new in this article (well, except maybe the Eudora tip above).
These recommendations have been floating around the Internet as
long as there has been an Internet. The sad fact is, though, that
mailing list manners haven't improved with time.
So why can I complain? Two reasons. First, I think it's important
that this topic, old as it is, remains in the public eye. Second,
I do the work every day to create a mailing list that tries to
conform to all the recommendations above. In TidBITS Talk, I do
the following to every message:

* Basic editing and spell checking, which is significantly eased
by Eudora Pro 4.2's inline spell checker. I also add blank lines
between paragraphs, add angle brackets to URLs, and remove styled
text.
* Eliminate unnecessary original text in replies. This task is
quite easy, since wholesale deletions take little time.
* Reject junk messages. Most mailing lists aren't moderated, but
eliminating junk messages, or even multiple identical answers to
the same question, is a major advantage of moderation.
* Normalize subject lines. I try to keep similar messages in
threads and break new thoughts out into new threads. This work
also improves the quality and coherence of our archive database.
* Signature pruning. Since I'm already editing messages, it's
little extra work to trim signatures to their essentials.
I do all this work because I think it makes for a far better list
experience, and highly positive feedback from the members of the
TidBITS Talk list confirms this. Another advantage is that this
work tends to keep the list volume down, since I'm less likely to
post messages that require a lot of work to clean up.
(NOTE FROM JAMES ESPEY: When the DML was on the old server, I used to be
able to do a lot fo this editing that is mentioned above, with eGroups I
lost that functionality. That's why the messages and digests are longer
and full of more "crap".)
I'm not trying to be smug - I love it when I can post submissions
to TidBITS Talk without a lick of work. I also don't expect most
other people who run mailing lists to expend this level of effort
(though I wouldn't complain if some did). Instead, my goal here is
to educate people who participate in mailing lists, since only by
improving our list manners will mailing lists continue to become
increasingly pleasant and useful.

I have the answer to my own question
A technical representative (chemist?) from Prestone just called me back
and we had a nice chat about their Extended Life Antifreeze. She
apologized for the confising label on the jug.
More importantly, she assured me that it is safe to leave the new orange
colored antifreeze in my DeLorean for five years! It will protect the
aluminum much longer than the old green antifreeze.
They have some information on the Internet, including instructions on
switching from the green stuff to the orange stuff:

I was going to mention the tyres but figured this was something you would
have been told before.
I had a real uneaven and bumby ride untill I bought a new set of tyres all
round ,the dealer explained that tyres of that age (regardless of wear) have
more likley lost the oil from the rubber making them very hard in some places
. I now have a very quiet ride but am no longer on the original rubber
(shame) .The tyre depot could have just fleeced me for new tyres though so if
anyone else has been told this I would be interested to hear about it

I had a similar problem with my D. It showed a good charge but the battery
kept going down. Turns out I needed a new alternator. Once I got it
changed, it's been smooth sailing ever since. The A/C uses a lot of
electrical power in our cars. It could be draining your battery.

Dear DML,
I too have a factory original license plate holder, I think. Are they
supposted to be black? I found it underneath the passenger seat one day
about a month ago. Had no idea what it was until another DML'er recognized
what it was. The reason I believe it to be factory original is that the car
has always been in NC and in this state we do not require front plates.

I have also recently purchased new tires for my DeLorean (they only have
about 300 miles on them). Unfortunately, I still have the vibration
problem. I know that it must be due to an imbalance because the vibration
is extremely repetitive and its frequency is almost perfect at a given
speed. I am very interested in trying one of the "on car" balancing
methods.

113,the fiberglassed test vehicles qualify as factory
cars,that were painted,and those are probably the only true factory
authorized cars,but the catch is that Lotus built them.(the fiberglass
panels)and installed them,but regardless they still were painted (or gel-coat
finish?)Where are those 18 orange cars now?anybody?

As a big Miami Vice fan, I can tell you that DeLoreans were used in numerous
episodes of Vice (According to my friends on the Miami Vice mailing list),
however I have only seen 4th season episodes (the damn network only shows
the same eps over and over - I wish they'd get some new ones already!) and
there is only one ep in that season which has a DeLorean.
The episode is "Indian Wars", and like I said, it's from the 4th (1987/88)
season of Miami Vice. It's about some young rebell indians from a
reservation intercepting drug deals and making off with all the drugs. The
scene with the DeLorean goes something like this:
The scene starts with a shot from behind the DeLorean, looking down its
right side, then the door opens and a drug dealer's henchman steps out (with
an Uzi in hand - never leave home without one). Then, Lt. Castillo (Edward
James Olmos) rocks up in his Lamborghini, which is part of his 'cover' as a
dealer. Castillo ignores the henchman and walks over to the DeLorean as the
other drug dealer opens the left-side door and gets out. The dealer and
Castillo have a conversation, all the while the DeLorean can be seen in the
background. Although, that same dealer end up face-down in a fish tank later
in the episode, so the DeLorean doesn't make any other appearances.
The scene lasts for about a minute, and from what I can tell the DeLorean
appears to be an '81 model, with the lines on the hood.
I'm not sure what episode number it is, or when it will air in the US, but
if you check out http://www.vice-files.com you might be able to find out.

How do you explain the fender in the warehouse that had color samples
painted on it? (I wish I took a picture... Maybe Steve Wynn can post
one?)
I was told this was a fender that was used to test, and display the
paint possibilities on the stainless. I think someone at the warehouse
said it came from DuPont... I saw no verification of this, I am NOT an
authority on this.
In a company of any substantial size, I find it impossible for one
person to know about everything that was going on. DMC subcontracted
the turbo design to Legend, maybe they also subcontracted the paint
research to someone?

If you had a situation where the voltage gauge was below 11 volts and you
had to jump start the car you either have a bad battery or a problem in the
charge circuit. If the blower comes on and than shuts off you may have a
defective blower circuit breaker.

The fuel pump fuse melt down is common to all DeLoreans, if your fuse has
melted DO NOT REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER. The replacement fuse will also melt
in time. Go to your local Radio Shack, Auto Zone, or any auto parts store
and purchase a "heavy duty" in-line fuse holder. Pull out your fuse block
and cut the wires going to fuse # 7 and connect the in-line fuse holder in
its place. Be sure that your splice connections are secure and tight.
The Lambda light does not have a test function, as mentioned by another
list member the lamp illuminates when the Lambda counter reaches 30,000
miles.
Before replacing the blower motor be sure that it is receiving power. With
a 12V test light check the red feed wire for voltage, go through all speed
settings. If there is no power at all speeds than your problem is related
to switching, circuit breaker or relays. If there is voltage be sure the
motor is properly
grounded, if it is, than the motor needs to be replaced. If you need

Sherman Williams, PPG Industries, and DuPont were contacted by DMC to
submit information on procedures for painting stainless steel panels, check
out DMC Service Bulletin ST-02-2/82 for all the details.
Page 101 of Stainless Steel Illusion has details on experiments with
painting the stainless. Paragraph two reads: "A far more intriguing way JZD
considered for adding color to his sports car was with new body panels. Not
stainless steel or metal, but soft urethane plastic bolted in place of the
metal panels. The plastic would not only add color but would be highly
resistant to small dings and bumps to the body surface. We may not of heard
the last of this bright idea."
That last line strongly relates to the recent stories talking of John
building a plastic bodied sports car.

Yokohama has discontinued tires for our cars several times
over the years. Typically with markets this small, tire companies
run batches of odd-sized tires periodically. Once the batch run
is done, tire shops can no longer order directly from the company.
Any inventory held by distributors is the only alternative.
After a period of time, the company may decide to run another
batch and the process starts all over.
I would not stockpile tires, especially high speed rated tires.
The compounds used to make high performance tires
outgasses at a steady rate from when the tire is made.
The longer the time, the worse the tire will perform. Autocross
tires have a life of one year whether you put them on a rim
and run them or not.

John Z. DeLorean won't give up.
At 74, he still harbors dreams of gull-wing doors and a sleek, supercharged
sports car that rocks the staid automotive industry. He's sure he will
build it, maybe not this year, but sometime soon, two or three years down
the road.
"Cars are in my blood," said DeLorean, the quixotic figure known as well
for his courtroom battles as the stainless steel cult car he manufactured a
generation ago. "They're really the only thing I've ever worked at."
Once, in another life, DeLorean spent a fair amount of time on a 48-acre
citrus and avocado ranch he owned in San Diego County's Pauma Valley. But
he transferred the $2.5 million property to the attorney who represented
him against cocaine trafficking and fraud charges related to his failed
DeLorean Motor Car Co. He was acquitted in the mid-1980s in both cases, but
prefers not to dwell on his legal odyssey.
"I don't look back at all," he said.
DeLorean now splits his time between a farm in Bedminster, N.J., and New
York City, still the visionary engineer obsessed with aerodynamics,
lightweight materials and speed.
What's on the drawing board now? A 1,450-pound sports car made of
structural plastic that can blast from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.2
seconds, starting at about $18,000. Equipped, of course, with DeLorean's
signature gull-wing doors.
With his elegant manner, silver-maned good looks and flair for the dramatic
gesture -- the DeLorean Motor Car was built in violence-scarred Belfast,
Northern Ireland, the former General Motors executive has always made sure
to stand out in the crowd.
"The key to the car business is generating some excitement," DeLorean said.
"There are very few cars anyone's dying to own. It seems like they all have
this round, amorphous, droopy look."
DeLorean turns elliptical when the subject turns to his partners or sources
of financing. When asked the name of his new venture, he responds: "If you
put the money up, I'll name it after you."
Meanwhile, the original DeLorean Motor Car remains a symbol of iconoclastic
quirkiness, having been featured in the "Back to the Future" movies as the
launch vehicle for time travel.
Aficionados trade in parts and DeLorean lore over the Internet, and
DeLorean himself receives letters and packages from DMC owners regularly.
"I just got a glovebox door that a woman wants me to sign for her husband,"
he said in a recent phone interview. Though several thousand DMCs remain on
the road, the man behind the machine doesn't drive one.
He prefers to look ahead, part engineer, part sci-fi fantasist, refusing to
go quietly in his twilight.
Another DeLorean plan: an elevated rail system that would run about 100
feet above freeway right-of-ways in traffic-snarled areas like Southern
California. The rail line would feature lightweight cars made of aerospace
composites and could zip passengers along at more than 300 miles per hour.
Travel time from San Diego to Los Angeles? A tad under 30 minutes.
"You'd be sitting on the freeway in traffic and look up and say, 'Shoot,
there is a better way,'" said DeLorean, imagining the biggest breakthrough
in mass transit since the subway. "Right now, we're looking for a place to
do a test demonstration."

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone out there knows what font the original DeLorean
Motor Company used below their DMC logo for writing their name...
I'm not talking about the famous DMC Font, but the TrueType Font that is
used on every DMC letter and ad.
Should you have this font, please e-mail it to me!

Dunlop G.T. Qualifiers they are T rated
and readily available at a great price.
Mine were quoted out at $551.26 installed
including taxes.

Sherman Williams, PPG Industries, and DuPont were contacted by DMC to
submit information on procedures for painting stainless steel panels, check
out DMC Service Bulletin ST-02-2/82 for all the details.
Page 101 of Stainless Steel Illusion has details on experiments with
painting the stainless. Paragraph two reads: "A far more intriguing way JZD
considered for adding color to his sports car was with new body panels. Not
stainless steel or metal, but soft urethane plastic bolted in place of the
metal panels. The plastic would not only add color but would be highly
resistant to small dings and bumps to the body surface. We may not of heard
the last of this bright idea."
That last line strongly relates to the recent stories talking of John
building a plastic bodied sports car.

This is a reminder that the Northern California DeLorean Motor Club will
be participating in the British Motorcar Show on May 16th.
We have enough cars coming to form our own class, but more cars would be
even better! If you're in the area come on out and meet up with us and
spend the day 'talking DeLorean'. This is also one of the largest
British car shows on the west coast, drawing many cars from the
Sacramento Valley and Bay Areas.
