Sometimes my driver's side glass will leave a gap when the window rolls up..
Just help it into the correct position from the inside if it's loose enough.
Then don't roll it down! <G> That's what I did, and I haven't used my
windows for weeks.... Sometimes A/C just has to suffice.. Besides, it's much
cooler to open your door for things that normally require a window-roll-down
(i.e. drive-through).

Was everyone aware that BF Goodrich has a model out called the Excentia GT,

How reliable the car is will be unique to your car.
Last year I drove to the show in Ohio from New Jersey. After a hour or
so, my back started to hurt.
It was so terrible that I would never do it again (I plan on doing it
again for the 2000 show!).
IMHO, the seats are not good for long drives. Some on the list have
said that a good set of seat covers helps a lot. I usually dont drive
that far, so it has not been a major problem for me.

Plugs - changed all, no difference and they all looked to be the right color
Ignition wires - checked with ohmeter
Compression - is great
Fuel injector - perfect spray pattern
Distributor cap/rotor - are fine

I have been a member of the mailing list since September but have not
written anything as I do not own a DeLorean. Being only 19 and at
University, such a car, although would be nice to own, is too expensive to
buy and insure so I will have to wait a few years. Even finding a model
which I can redily purchase without going on a waiting list seems to be just
as hard. However I now have something to share which I hope will be of some
interest.
I was wondering if any DeLorean interested people in the UK have seen the
Doritos advert which has been on over here.
I was sat relaxing, watching the adverts on channel 4. As I watched I came
across Doritos latest campagne, "Live Life Loud" to buy this snack food when
I spotted a familiar car in the background.
The TV ad is shot showing this guy sat in traffic which has come to a stand
still. He feels bored are decides to liven up the experience by opening a
pack of these crisps. Lots of strange things begin to happen such as the
little girl on the bill board comes to life, but you will notice that behind
the car which the bloke is eating the Doritos, is in fact, a D! I coulden't
believe it!
There is a second advert which revolves around some scratch card you now get
in the pack and yes, its still there sat in the same place, you can even see
the logo on the front grill.
What I thought strange was that its a DeLorean in a British advert.
Has anyone else seen it or am I going mad?
Is it also being shown in the US?

Try swapping 2 of the wires, and see if the problem moves with the
wire. Here is why:
If you have checked everything correctly, then I suspect that you may
still have a bad wire. The OHM meter test is good to see if the wire is
"open", but does not do a good job of checking to see if the insulation
is good.
It is common on over head cam motors to have the spark jump from a crack
in the wire to the block, creating a short circuit, where the spark
never gets to the plug.
You can also inspect the wire for cracks, and burning where this is
happening. It is usually pretty close to the spark plug, below the
boot. It will sometimes even happen at the point there the wire
connects to the plug.
A quick fix is to put some dielectric grease on the the effected area,
but this is temporary. The real fix is a new set of wires.
If none of the above is true, then you can try using a timing light on
the #6 wire to make sure that there is at least enough current through
the wire to make the light flash. But remember, just because the light
blinks does not mean you are getting a good spark. This test is more of
a way to see if you are getting current flow through the #6 wire. If
you have a "short", you will still get current through the wire, but no
spark.

Could be the starter :}
A short circuit can make your solenoid burn out. If the solenoid is
burned out again, that's probably it. Otherwise, check the motor.

I've been to ebay, and let me tell you, don't waste your time or money.
Some of those kits are going for $50+. I bought one a few weeks ago for
$20. Go to www.hlj.com (Hobby Link Japan) and search around for them.
Even though the company is in Japan, the $20 I spent included shipping to
the States. I've even thought about selling my model on ebay, but I
decided I'd rather not part with it.

Not really. Last time I went to Universal Studios Florida they had a large
stock of BTTF II model cars. I had bought one a couple of years ago and it
came in a black box that looked old and seemed a bit dented up, as if it had
been sitting on the self for a couple of years. The ones I saw last time
were in white boxes that seemed brand new and the packaging plastic was still

Check your battery, make sure it is at least 12.5V with a real Volt
meter (not the one on the dashboard) Even with the battery in the 10V
range, most of the cars accessories will work fine.... But the starter
wont!
My guess is that for some reason your battery voltage is low. If you
verify that, your next step is to figure out why.
If the voltage is good, you should do a few more tests on the electrical
system to make sure you have a good low resistance connection between
the battery and the starter. A small amount of resistance in this
circuit can amount to a large voltage drop when you put large amounts of
current through it (starting the car). Look for loose or dirty
connections on all of the components, including the negative battery
cable.
Starter solenoids (and starters) tend to burn up when there is too much
current running through them. That happens because the coil requires a
specific amount of power to operate.
OHM's law of P=I*E (Power = Current * Voltage) says that if you have a
low voltage situation, the current will increase to keep the power
constant.
The problem gets worse, because with the added current, the coil heats
up more. When the heat goes up, the resistance goes down. When the
resistance goes down, the current goes up. This will continue until the
circuit is broken either by you letting go of the key, or the coil
burning out (or the battery drains).

I found the DeLorean seats to be very comfortable for long rides.. IF
you put some sheepskin seat covers on them. I thought for sure my wife
was going to have trouble with the seats because of all the back trouble
she has, but even she was comfortable. I find if I sit for 2 hours in my
87 200SX that by back (and butt) are killing me, and it has large, flat,
well padded seats. But you mileage may vary..

When I first bought my DeLorean I drove it over 14 hours home. It was pretty
reliable and very comfortable to me (6'3" tall). Recently I have taken it on
a few shorter trips with great success. I think it just depends on who your
are and what you are used to.

This is very funny to hear this. You see, it is me and my DeLorean that are
in that ad. It was filmed here in the US (Miami, Florida). It took three
days to film that. I was told it will never make it to the US. Can anyone
record it and put it up on the web? It was fun to do though the food there
was very bad. The car will also be in the movie Random Hearts for a few
seconds this summer.

You could concievably get a third person behind the front seats, as long as that person is not more than about 6 years old. I have had two 12-year-olds share the passenger seat for a short (2 mile) trip, but they were not comfortable at all

Reliability depends on the individual car. If you neglect it or only fix things as the break, a 10-hour drive will certainly wring out many of the latent defects. As has been stated, these cars are now 18 years old, and reliability is much

2. Changing How The You Receive Messages
Thanks in large part to Egroups.com mailinglist members have a
powerful interface from which users can change their mailinglist
membership.
To change how your email is delivered you have to go to
http://www.egroups.com and create an account using the email address
of yours that is subscribed to the DMC-News list. You can also
go directly to the DMC-News page by going to
http://www.eGroups.com/list/dmcnews
Once you have set up an account you will be shown a screen of all
Egroups lists you are on. You can click on each and setup each list
you are on as you wish. Additionally you can read back messages there
as well as post to the list if you are on the road.
When you get logged in click on MODIFY and you are presented with a
list of options you can change including whether you get HTML emails
or not.
Most importantly there is a pull down selector box that allows you to
set your Read Mode. Your choices are:
Individual Emails:
Each email is sent seperately and directly as they are sent in to the
DMC-News list.
Daily Summary Digest:
You will get one message a day and it will only contain the names of
the people who posted and the subject lines of those messages, then
there is an html weblink to the message where you can read it online.
Daily Full Digest:
This is the traditional digest, all emails sent to the list are
compiled into this one email which is sent out early each morning.
Read It On The Web:
Rather than having the list delivered to your inbox you are a member
of the list but you have to go to the www.egroups.com website to read
the messages. (List members can go on the website and read back
email/emails they missed at any time also)
No Messages:
This is how you can suspend your membership so you dont get emails
while you would be on vacation and such. Remember you can always read
back messages you may have missed on the Egroups.com webpage.
If you don't have access to the web and need to make changes to your
mailinglist membership email me at espey@dmcnews.com and I will make
the changes for you when I get a chance.

I drove my 85 year old grandmother from AR to TN in my D (about 400+ miles).
She was amazed at how good she felt after the trip. The interior takes a
while to get used to, but after a few miles it fits like a glove. I agree
with previous comments about the Delorean on long trips, lack of regular
maintenance means seeing the country from the roadside. As with any
automobile check it out BEFORE you leave home!!!
Mileage will vary according to how you drive. I averaged about 22 to 25 on
the road with no ac on.

Id like to know the answer to that too. When I buy my car next year Id like to
be able to get it from a place that I can trust wont give me a problem car. They
used to list cars they had for sale on their site, unfortunately they don't
anymore. Also Rob Grady (PJGrady) Refurbishes several cars and sells them with a
warranty. At least he did when I talked to him last June. Anyone purchased a
refurbished car, if so what was your experience with it?

When designing the 97 DeLorean prototype, we gave a lot of though about
adding one rear seat. This was motivated by our one son.
It is an interesting possibility. If you remove the wood deck behind
the driver seat and the compartment, you will find some interesting
space. You could install a reclined seat accross the car for a smaller
person. The feet would go in the space behind the drivers seat.

It's really only a car for two I'm afraid Capt'n. Last summer I did
manage to get 3 people in my D by moving the passenger seat forward as
far as it would go, and jamming my little brother on the shelf behind.
It was an unpleasant experience, especially as the air-conditioning had
packed up!
Forget about it unless your passengers have dwarf like proportions (like
Marty and Jennifer ;o)

I wouldn't buy a DeLorean from a dealership (other than a recognized
DeLorean specialist like DMC Houston et al.) because you get all the
dealership problems with none of the benefits. You have to pay the
dealer's markup; you lose the service history, owner stories, etc. which
you may (or may not) get from a private citizen; and the dealer PROBABLY
will not / should not service the car for you, unless it is an original
dealer that still handles the DeLoreans or is a particularly adventurous
Volvo dealer; most dealers treat the service department as a necessary
evil.
If you're worried about the price, go talk to them, and see what they want
for it :}

I'd like to lower my D from its original ride height. I've read that you can
put the rear springs in the front and put the front in the rear (after
cutting 3-1/2 coils out). I also know that lowering coils can be purchased.
I'd like to hear from someone who did the "switch and cut" method and what
their impression of the results was. Final car stance? Ride quality? etc.
Mechanically speaking, I know it's "proper" to buy the lowering springs, but
is there anything really wrong with this method?

I did purchase my D from a dealership. I found mine in Hemmings Motor News
over 2 years ago before I found the list. The dealership was located in
Southern NJ, and had it in the showroom with a couple of more expensive
cars. They were asking a little more than market, but when they saw I was
interested they immediately dropped the price to a more normal one.

On this subject of the Delorean and long journeys.The car has a very
large engine and was built for speed as most Sports Cars are, it was
never really built for long journeys.
I worked in the factory in Belfast were the car was built and I talked
to John Z Delorean about this subject.
The car was built as a
status symbol to be sold on the West coast of America i.e California
etc.
On Sunday at lunch-time
the Daughter would be sent of to the Golf Club to collect Daddy for
lunch.The Net in the rear of the car is there to hold the shopping in
place coming home from the Supermarket,this car was designed as a little
run-around.
Of course it can be used

No, the '97 prototype is an effort by Bob Brandys to update the DeLorean
with modern technology, or, at the very least, improved technology. It's
unrelated to JZD. It can be found at www.delorean-midwest.org, click the

Nothing. JZD is still trying to make a new car, probably not stainless
steel, unknown (to me) on the gull wings, but it is not the Firestar.
The Firestar was to be based on the original DMC-12, his new car is
unrelated to it. He says he wants a 400-HP engine in a car to be sold for
under $20,000. I'll believe it when I see it :}

Steve,I did that to my friends Delorean,I cut the 3-1/2 coils off the rear
springs using a die-grinder and a cut off wheel,that kept me from using any
heat on the coils and losing and strength and rigity,It was a bear to install
the springs on the front I highly recommend renting or buying a professional
spring compressor ,and not use those cheap $20.00 spring compressors,the car
looks great lowered,I looked at that Delorean about a month ago,(it sits
stored in his basement next to his furnace-(REALLY) unused,but the only
problem was that the springs make a boinky noise
that can only be heard while driving and only from inside the car.

I don't have a cut-and-swap conversion, but the reason that lowering is so
popular with the DeLorean is that the DeLorean as produced is not the same
as the DeLorean as designed. At the last minute the front end was raised
to meet changing federal bumper height requirements. Either form of
lowering is an improvement, but the cut-and-swap method lowers both the
front and rear, whereas the original design was lower only in the front.
Therefore, the lowered-spring conversion adjusts not only ride height, but
also the pitch angle of the car. This improves the aerodynamics and
visibility, which means that the lowering spring method is probably
better. Lotus is a better suspension tuner than I am, and so I tend to
believe that returning the car to as close to the design as possible is
going to be better.
There is some anecdotal evidence that the lowering spring conversion
really does improve the handling noticeably. Original Car & Driver
reviews of the DeLorean complained about high speed instability,
unpredictability and twitchiness in the steering, and chassis flexing.
Lowering corrects the first two of these and improves the third, although
chassis stiffness has always been a (fairly minor) problem.
There is also some danger in cutting your springs that you will screw it
up, and then they will come loose or break. So that's bad, but I've never
heard of this happening in practice *on a DeLorean*. I have heard of it
happening on poorly lowered Civics. You will also affect the spring rate
by cutting springs (no matter how hard you try not to) and this can affect
your ride quality and/or handling. I think the cut-and-swap was more
popular before the lowering springs became available.
I've also heard that the cut-and-swap method makes the car sufficiently
low in the back that bottoming out is a real danger on things like speed
bumps and inclined driveways. The DeLorean only has 5 inches of ground
clearance to start with.
Of course, the lowering springs (which affect only the front) are less
work, because you only have to take the front end apart instead of the
whole suspension.

Donnie,
I thought I was the only one crazy enough to buy a blue "D". Mine was on
consignment through a local dealer. Manual trans, grey interior 1982 with
8,122 miles on it. The dealer was asking $8,500. This car was painted by a
dealer when the original owner bought it. Even the rims have a blue tint to
it, but the car ran and the interior was in great shape. I found every little
thing wrong with the car I could and told the dealer about it. I then made my
offer of $6,500. He looked at me and said no way. So I gave him my phone# and
walked out. About a month and half later he called and said OK. I stole this
car. It's now in Atlanta at DMCJOE's having some work done to it. I was very
fortunate the dealer didn't know much about Deloreans or how to market the
car. The owner that had the car on conisgnment there was a doctor and didn't
really care how much it sold for. I bought this car cheaper than it cost to
get my stainless "D" restored. So yes, you should be able to buy this car
cheaper than a stainless steel one. Hope this helps.

Japan. I bought one and am generally very pleased with it, although the
"Back to the Future" alterations are quite annoying. So today I made my own

clearance, and I did have a problem with some big speed bumps, even if I just
rolled over them. I rarely had a problem even with some road dips and potholes.
My only complaint was that with the front springs in the back, there was not
enough stiffness there. Of course, the front was VERY stiff.
I spoke to a number of people about it, (and there was some discussion on the
list) about it. The story I put together was that the entire car was lifted for
US requirements, not just the front.
Steve, of DMC Houston had some springs made that he claims are exact
reproductions (from the same design, and factory) as the original lotus design.
I purchased a set from him (4 springs).
PJ Grady installed the springs for me last year. The back of the car is about
the same height as it was with the front spring in there, but it is now much
stiffer. I was very happy about this. The front however, was almost 2 inches
higher than with the cut rear springs, and it was not as stiff as I was used to.
With a few miles on the new springs, and a opportunity to see the car next to
other Deloreans this past weekend, I am more comfortable with the new springs. I
dont know if I would do it all again because of the cost involved, but the back
of the car is more stable now. I still think the front "looks" to high. Steve
claims that this is the original design springs, and it makes the car level.
The car is in fact level now, and it was not with the cut springs.
As I said, I am pretty satisfied with the DMC Houston springs. I do have some
issues but not enough to spend the time and money necessary to try and make it
perfect (in my eyes...).
Dont cut your springs. If you want a set of cut springs to try, I'll sell you
mine.

I totaly agree with you. Anyway I went to skiing weekends with my D
several times. It's a bit more difficult, but a nice back rack for the
skis/snowboard (remeber, no roof rack or you can't open the ddors
anymore - important olso to put the skis on the back rack in a way that
avoids the doors). I like the seats well enough for the four hour drive
(L.A. to Mamoth). Driving on snow was good enough, but getting the right
chains that don't ruin the panels is hard. And I'd recommend a good CD
player and better speakers... .

The "D" is great on long trips...(Cincinnati to Denver
1250mi). Kansas was great above 85 it's like the car is
glued to the road. The seats are comfortable for this kind
of travel & the only thing that would add to the comfort is
cruise control. I tend to get a cramp in my foot when I stay
in one position like that. The only problem that I had on
that trip was a failed doide in the fan circuit. I didn't
find that until we had to slow down in traffic in Kansas
City. Otherwise, the 'D' has been quite reliable.

After reading several accounts of opinions regarding the comfort of the
DeLorean for long periods of time in the driver seat I have to comment. I've
crisscrossed the U.S. many times in my DeLorean, most of the time with
friends who also were driving DeLoreans. Our common concensus was that we
felt less tired after putting long hours in the saddle in this car than of
any other vehicle we'd traveled in. We found the car seemed the happiest at
about 80 to 90 mph and 900 mile days were not all that out of the ordinary
for us. To classify the car as strictly a boulevard cruiser is to do it a
great injustice. There isn't another car I'd rather put those many miles per
day with than my DeLorean.

Folks,
Lowering the DeLorean by the "cut and swap" method is a no, no.
All of the "effects" have been posted by everyone. Most of these posting has
basically describing the disadvantages of the cut and swap method. The other
problem which is not and have not been addressed in lowering the DeLorean is
the rear alignment problem. This cannot be corrected unless you make
adapters or make new trailing arm units. You must correct for the new height
difference. You must get the trailing arm alignment right for the handling
and for safety, plus you suffer premature wear on your rear tires.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on my problem. For the

I drove my Delorean across the U.S. from California to Maine in 1990 and It
was a GREAT ride. The only discomfort I felt was in thigh on my gas pedel
leg. The angle I had it at caused some minor discomfort at times during
the drive as my knee would rest on the side of the center console. It
would have been great to have cruise control on such a long trip. But
overall the car is really great on a long trip and much more comfortable
than my VW Jetta. By the way does anyone know of a cruise control unit
that would fit our cars?????

Okay, I just had $2000 worth of work done to my DeLorean so now I'm
getting normal DeLorean malfunctions instead of really odd ones!
The latest:
Having read through the archives about SS braided clutch lines
I've determined that I have the exact opposite problem that everybody
had with the plastic lines!
The clutch seems to work fine after it has been used for awhile, or
after it heats up, but when cold, it will just barely engage when you
push the pedal all the way to the floor. What the %#@* is going on!?!
I don't think I have the braided clutch line, but I haven't been
down to check. The only other thing I can think of is that I just had
Dave Bauerle adjust my clutch so that it didn't have this problem, and
for a good three weeks it was fine. Now this. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

This is true and to correct the problem install a set of adjustable control
arms. Don sales them at Delorean Motor Center.
They work great, no premature tire wear.

I am confused. You said that when the car is cold the clutch "will just
barely engage", don't you mean disengage. You also said that you had the
clutch adjusted. The DeLorean clutch is non-adjustable. If the clutch pedal
engagement position changes as the car heats up you have one of two
different problems. Air in the hydraulic line, or a defective master or
slave cylinder.

Hi to all our DML members,
It's been a while sense my last post.
My D has been laid up for the last couple of months with a broken clutch (5)
speed. I lost all pedal just as I got home, and ended up pushing it up the
drive-way
and into the hanger.
After checking the fluid level and finding it empty! and finding a stained
driver
side carpet indicating that the clutch master cylinder was probably the
problem,
I ordered one from PJ Grady. It took quite a while to get around to
starting the
repair because I thought it was going to be difficult and time consuming.
It turned out that even with needing a second person to hold a Phillips to
remove
the two nuts, the whole remove and replace job took an hour. All that is
left is
the bleeding,
The original unit look fine, although on the dirty side. I found some
indication of
wetness around the plunger but not the dripping I expected. When I opened the
seal end which on the original has a metal band holding the seal in place I
discovered
a rusty nasty wet mess. Removing the plunger requires the removing of a
snap ring.
Once cleaned up the plunger is installed in the new master cylinder, which
comes with a new snap ring. Installing the new master cylinder is easy
enough, as is the connecting of the
fluid fill hose and the hydraulic line back to the slave cylinder.
Every time something breaks I get the feeling that the problem will never
be fixed, and every time I dive in I find that I enjoy working on my D, Now
all that's left is to bleed the lines.
Well the bleeding is done and the clutch works!
Now a question?
Any one who has ever had to bleed the clutch line knows what a bitch it is
just to reach
and what a mess it makes, especially when a master cylinder is replaced and
you are faced with bleeding most of the line contents to get all the air out.
I have come up with a single tool that will do the following:
1. loosen the bleeder screw with out removing the Engine CVR or even
reaching behind the engine.
2. collects all the Dot-4 as it is bled (spl?) off and puts in a container
and not the bell housing or floor.
3. loosens and tightens the bleed screw during the bleeding cycle, again
with out requiring reaching down behind the engine and is used to tighten
screw when bleeding is complete.

HERE IS A LONG SHOT. (BUT I SEEN THIS HAPPEN ON A TRANS AM ONE TIME) IF
YOUR ARE USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, IT MAY BE STICKING ON ONE OF THE REAR
CALIPERS. IT TENDS TO SHOW MORE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED(NOT SURE WHY).
TRY NOT USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AFTER YOU PARK TO SEE IF THIS IS POSSIBLE.

One of the previous two owners of my D put in the Sears generic cruise
control, and did a nice-looking job. But it doesn't appear to work at
the moment and I havn't bothered to troubleshoot it yet. I'm mostly
inclined to yank it all out, since I really only drive around town, but I
think I'll be regretting it the first time I take a long drive. :-)

Lee, A friend and I bled his clutch system a few weekends ago. Useing a
LONG extention on a ratchet worked to reach the bleeder w/o reaching
behind the engine, and we could have used a funnel to catch the spill but
didn't. While an all in one tool would be nice next time around, it wasn't
really all that hard. (Oh, and a good spotlight helps out a lot in finding
the end of the bleeder).
What would have been perfect is a deep socket w/ half of it's wall cut
away above the area that the bleeder would fit into with a vinal hose
stuck in it that can be droped down to the floor and into a bucket/pan.
Then not only would we have been able to catch the fluid, we'd been able
to visually see if there was any air left in the line.

Joe,
I'm a little confused myself! What I mean is that you cannot engage the
clutch pedal (therefore disengaging the engine from the wheels) unless you
press it all the way to the floor. Second, I'm not sure exactly what he did,
but when I took my car to Bauerle he noticed this problem, except then it was
always like that, and didn't change when it warmed up. He told me that he
could fix this by manually raising the clutch pedal about an inch up from it's
regular position. This wouldn't actually adjust the position of engagement,
but it would raise that set position up from the floor. It doesn't matter that
the pedal is an inch higher than the other two, because obviously you never
transfer your left foot from the clutch to either of the those. Like I said,
it worked for a good three weeks, but now even though the pedal itself is still
an inch higher, it won't engage until you get to the floor again. However,
when it warms up everything is fine.
Do I need to go back to Bauerle and have him fix it again, or is this a new
development, unrelated to that adjustment?

Recently I had to replace the clutch becuse the plate disintergrated.
While I had the clutch out, I decided to have the clutch slave cylinder
re-sleeved because it had a slight weep. It also had some corrosion
inside. I found bleeding the line and cylinder was not too difficult a
job, just a bit fiddly. If I recall, a 5/32" ring/open-end spanner fitted
neatly over the bleed valve (ring end). With this in place, I fitted a
length of clear plastic tube over the end of the valve and placed the other
end into a jar. I used about 4' of tubing. Enough to reach from the slave
cylinder to the ground and with a bit to spare. With my son working the
cluch pedal, I successfully bled the system. In fact, I completely changed
the oil with new. I have a good strong pedal and the clutch works great.
As you would be aware, the job would be impossible to accomplish unless the
car is raised off the ground. I had my 'D' on axle stands. Also if you
lay on a creeper, this will give you more mobility whilst under the car and
make the job a little easier for you. For illumination, I used a 240v
trouble light which I managed to wedge up beside the bell housing.
I don't mean to be telling you how to suck eggs, but the bleeding process
is quite simple. With the bleed valve closed, have somebody slowly pump
the pedal a few times, and with the pedal held in, release the bleed valve.
Make sure the person working the pedal does not release the pedal while
you have the valve open. Keep repeating this process until all air is
removed from the system and a good flow of fluid extrudes. During the
process, you will notice clutch beginning to operate and the pedal becoming
load bearing.

of his rear wheels had come loose and he snuged it up.. How much torque
should the wheel bearings have?
Also, The engine is running rough untill it warms up. I know on my merc I

Hello All!
I was perusing the internet the other day, and I came across an artist
who draws various cars and trucks using dot shading "stippling". After
exchanging a few e-mails, he stated that he is familiar with and could
easily draw a DeLorean. NORMALLY, prices start at $300 for an original,
which I thought was a little much. However, he said that if I gathered
enough people that were interested in purchasing a print of the drawing,
he could decrease the cost tremendously.
Less than $50 would include a *stainless-steel* appearing framed 16x20
print. Larger sizes are also available, although he has not specified
what sizes. Smaller versions in a 11x14 and 8x10, once again if there is
enough interest.

detailed, and as you can see he has lots of experience drawing autos.
This little project is still in the infancy stages, so I have not yet
decided what the picture should look like. I was thinking about that
poster of the rare RHD delorean except flipped on the vertical axis to
look like a LHD (with both doors open). Of course, I am open to all
sorts of suggestions. I'll keep the list posted on the status of this
project.
If you might be interested in buying this in the future, let me know.
I'm open to ANY suggestions, or if you're interested send me an e-mail
with "DeLorean Art" as the subject. NO obligation to buy, just checking
how many people would be interested in buying so we can decide whether or
not to move forward. Orders will be taken later, probably sometime this
summer when I get back from Germany.

i was driving around at work, in San Jose California, when a friend told me
that there was a Delorean in a driveway near his house. i went to check it
out and sure enuff, there it was. it had a Calif. license plate on
it(PROTO1) although it obviously had not ben registered in years. it was
covered in dust and had 4 flat tires. i noticed that it didnt have the black
window louvers on the back and had sliding side windows on the doors. i
knocked on the door and the "lady of the house" told me that her husband had
purchased it at auction when J. Delorean was going though his "legal
problems". she told me that it had less that 180 miles of "test track only
miles", and that hubby had paid $37K for the car. i had to take off and
hubby wasnt home, so i left my card for him to call me. ill fill you all in
as soon as i get more info.

Subject: [DML] loose steering

I need some help on solving a steering problem, I have looked in the
archives and found nothing on this. When I drive my "D" it appears to
want to float into the other lane when cornering. I looked and found
that the pinion on the rack wants to turn outward just a little bit. It
will turn outward counterclock wise and inward clockwise, this seems to
be were I am getting some play in the steering, which would be the cause
of my loose steering. My question is I have heard of adding shims to
tighten up the steering, but is this related to that? If so, were would
I add any shims?
The rack has had new bearings installed and any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi David,
yep I have solved that problem by making a special tool. It is very
specialized and I doubt that any other use would ever arise. You would
still need a light and a mirror to view the bleed screw to set the tool end
over the bleed screw, but once you do that, all you need is a peddle pumper!
BTW The tool includes an air lock so if you don't get the bleed screw
tight on the "let up" cycle while bleeding, you won't suck air back into
the slave cylinder. You also have a visual feed back so you can see an air
in the line as it is purged.
If I get enough replies I will send out some information and maybe we can
get a few made...kinda like the stainless break lines!!!!(which I loved
putting in!)

here in Detroit. I took many pictures and will be posting them on the web

Shain,
I actually recognize this painting......It glazed the cover (or part of it
anyway) of Car and Driver in 1982. (I believe April or August) It was also
printed in a larger print on the inside of the magazine by the article. The
article was a feature about DeLorean and its "Current financial troubles" etc.

Yes Ken you mileage may very but will our's?
UGH.......YUK-AH sheep skin seat covers.......how tacky!, next you will have
dingle-ball fringes along the wind shield, pneumatic shocks, tweety-bird
horn............
As you know I re did my seats which are comfort personified now with out
any additions. I can't imagine covering them with dead animal hair!
After nearly a half century of driving I don't think I can remember a more
comfortable car seat. My guess is that for most the seats will be great and
for a few not so great.
I want to take issue with the beginning of this thread which was from a
former DMC employee who drew a correlation between the net across the back
of the rear storage area and the DMC being a round the town only car. From
every thing that I have read about DeLorean's goal for his "Mr. Everyman"
sports car for the USA was not to produce an around the town machine. First
I have the distinct impression from many that because the DMC was built in
Europe that it was designed for European roads. I doubt this, because every
aspect of the DMC is cursing at "High speeds", not just the shape, look at
the engine and how its set up, at the Gear ratios, and mostly at the way
the seats and controls are lade out, all spell "AMERICAN HIGHWAYS" long
stretches of high speed freeways. And given all this the DMC loves a
winding two lane black to in the rolling hill. I don't know about others
who own DMC's but mine handles great on both open freeway and the winding
coast roads of California.
What I find so interesting is how the net in a DMC indicates town use only?
