Hi Gang!
I recently was sent a bunch of the "De Gull Wing" Newsletters which were published by the original Delorean Motor Club of America. Can someone please tell me what ever happened to the club? Is it now the DOA? (ugh!)
The old newsletters are a great source and are filled with technical tips - the club appeared to stock new and used parts at discounted prices. (i.e. the steel label kits you now see on Ebay periodically, $5 fuel filters, Delorean car bras, adjustable rear suspension links, battery switches etc...) Correct me if I'm wrong but the DOA seems to be no where near the resource the DMCA was. What happened to them?

P.S. The Club also had an exterior sun screen shade much like the one James and DMC announced they were going to try and market. I thought it was an innovative idea they had come up with....until I saw it in a back issue of DeGull Wing (March/June 1987) The screen retailed for $39.00 :)

On my way home last night, I had the unfortunate surprise of a deer jumping out in front of me. Luckily, with some strong braking and swerving, I was able to miss most of him, but did clip him on his hip. He got up and walked off, I'm sure cussing me all the way. But what really surprised me was how little it affected my DMC. It knocked a headlight out of alignment, the wheels out of alignment, and caused a very slight wrinkle in the bumper paint, but that's about it. I shudder to think what could have happened if I had hit it with my new camaro.

I think Jonathan should be commended for trying to come up with an alternate solution....but I guess that doesn't help DMC sell auto parts.
By "improved and properly designed" do you mean 1/8" too short - like the window switches??

This is kinda confusing. I'm sure I have an oil leak. The oil pan is covered with oil (which I cleaned off during my last oil change) and the filter has a few droplets hanging off of it. As I've heard most oil leaks are the senders, I checked them, and they're covered with oil too. But here's the weird part-my oil level doesn't seem to be dropping. Its right where it was when I changed it. Possibly, because the DMC holds so much oil, it's just not as easy to recognize? Anyway, would a leak on the senders cause the oil to get on the pan too? Or I am I also looking at a gasket leak?

I guess I am talking about exhaust leak because I smell like before my= Toyota Supra's exhaust leak from a bad gasket. It smells like unhealthy bit= ter burned smell=85I talk to the shop last night. They said my Catalyst is V= ERY rusty.=20
I replaced two of stainless clad one-piece exhaust manifold gaskets, t= hree other gaskets (almost same as Exhaust Manifold Service Kit). Before I=20= replace them, there was noise when it hit 2900 rpm, but I do not hear it any= more.=20

I was just wondering what people thought of this special. I was disappointed with some parts, like the classic History channel recycling of parts. I'm pretty I saw the specials that VW and Edisel stuff came from. Just the fact that there was a lot of good footage of D's and especially the prototype won me back. Anyone know what persuaded JZD to go with the power toll booth windows as opposed to the sliding window? The latter looks much more reliable. Well, mine are currently are broke, so I might be biased :)

Just wanted to clarify something here. When you are working with or removing or replacing the window regulator, you should never even have to touch or remove any of the locking rods or any of the locking system. I have taken several window regulator out and replaced them with out removing any of the locking system. I will emit that you will have to hold your mouth just right to get the window regulator out, once you have removed the screws and nuts that hold it in place.
Also take a look on my site for directions on how you maybe be able to repair your window. I call it the $5.00 window fix. I guess that it is coming close to a year now that I performed this fix on my Delorean and I have not experienced any problems with my windows since.

If you choose to open up your door compartment understand that there are many small parts that need to placed in exactly the same way you removed them. you have to go through door lock rods to get to the window track and its very easy to break the glass so be careful. Its hard to see but if you look carefully you will see how the window operates and can pretty much figure it out for yourself.
As for your brake problem, if you remove your wheels you can see your adjustment right above the main brake caliper. Adjustments can be made accordingly with simple tools. As you pointed out, check your pads.

I believe that James found some of these posters at DMC Houston....They sell items like this on E-Bay from time to time. I have one of these that, I got a while back and I am having it framed at this time. The poster is large ( I think that the size is 40 inches X 60 inches. ) Also they come at a price too. You can expect to pay right at $150.00 to $300.00 for one.

Yeah, I've read your site quite a bit. The only problem was that I'm obviously blind and wasn't able to figure out how to even get started on taking out the regulator. I honestly have no idea what the current problem is, but I'm willing to quite a bit to avoid spending $500 on these windows (at least right now). I haven't had time to mess with it in the past few days. I'm glad that there are many people that can give me a helping hand fixing this annoying little problem.

Well finally got the car on the road today, boy was it worth the wait. The car got so much attention on its first voyage out of the neighborhood......even had the treat to see another cruising around today.......it was Rob Grady testing a customers car...My insurance agent is a stonethrow from the shop. I read in one of the books that JZ thought the car "needed" electric windows, because sliding one's were just too down market,( dispite the fact that they work fine) . Because of the shape of the door, a full size one in glass just wouldn't work. Someone has done them full-size using polycarbonate, which bends.

Buy a few cans of engine degreaser and thoroughly clean all the oil off of the pan. After it is clean, check to see where the leak is coming from. Most of the time it is from the rear seal.

DeLorean? It it is usually marked as 150N or 350N. If I cant find this does
anyone know how much a DeLorean door weighs? That will help me out!
My struts are aftermarkets and have no writing on them at all. If
anyone could go get the part number off of their original lift-o-mat struts
that may help too.

My understanding is that JZD couldn't get the sliding windows to seal properly. I've heard they leaked badly, so he wanted to go with no window at all, but EPA required at least some ventilation, so the toll booth windows were adopted.

1) it was an oppenent in the race you just finished 2) you have enough credits to purchase it
It is very accurately modeled on the real DMC-12 and for a little humour they stuck some spikes to the front grill and changed the grill text from DMC to RUN.

Scott,
A little oil goes a LONG way when it comes to leaks. All you have to do is leak about a teaspoonful of oil and suddenly the whole motor is oily, yet the dipstick won't really indicate any problems.
The leak is ALWAYS at or near the highest point where you find oil. Oil leaks tend to follow gravity and work down and cover EVERYTHING below it. If the senders are leaking, then the engine will probably be dry above them. Yes, you could have multiple leaks, but probably not. If the oil is coming from a higher up area than the senders, then look at the cam cover gaskets, and check that the oil filler cap is fitting tightly. Could be other things too, but that's where I would start.

As close as I know is that 1 DeLorean door weighs "ABOUT ?" 90 lbs, but I'm sure there is a more precise weight figure for this.

There are three main sources for oil leaks on the De Lorean engine. The oil= light sender (most common), rear crankshaft seal (most common in high mile= age cars), and the cam shaft cover seals.
