I just finished watching the show "Politically Incorrect" where they bring four guests (usually celebrities) and they debate about current issues. Well tonight (08/28/99) in his monologue host Bill Maher was poking fun at George W. Bush (or his father, doesn't matter). Anyways, Bill asked George: "Why aren't you still driving your DeLorean?" Now this statement got me wondering... Was Maher relating George W. Bush's "no comment" on past use of cocaine with JZD's drug trafficking scandal and therefore making fun of the DeLorean, or did George W. Bush once own a DeLorean? I didn't want to cut the stock harness to put in the new stereo, but I didn't have a 9-pin plug either. So, I wired the speakers (which I also changed) with my own wires, just running them along the stock lines for the front and back. This is really better than using the stock harness, because the original design shared speaker wires. One wire is common for both the front and rear speakers on each side. This goes against most stereo installer rules. Besides that, you can run thicker wire to the speakers, which beats the stock 20 AWG stuff. Everything I have done on my car has been "on top" of the stock system. I just run my modifications along with what's already there, that keeps things original, and allows me to upgrade certain systems. Cars with controversy tend to be collector items and I exclusively show my car. Tell me the last time there was a large croud around one of the cars he mentioned. Although nice these cars lack the differentiation between other cars Somehow pulling up and opening the gullwing doors and drawing a crowd is something the other cars won't do. How many people are jsut interested in touching the stainles. Also look at the price of a 1981-1983 Porshe or Vet vs the Delorean For such a poor car the Delorean seems to be holding its own pretty good and When I looked for a car I looked for one with its own personality I know I made the right choice. ( I bet we all have had our SELL IT, GET RID OF IT stage !) It was only an opinion ,The D.O.A should do the best thing it can and invite=20 him and a film crew to the Octoberfest and let him drive the cars that have=20 been fully restored and then put him at the controls of one of the turbo car= s=20 .With a little work we could turn him around and get some good press !! Now, would you get upset if the Enquirer or the Star said these things. Hell, no! Who reads this trash. He slams the car. But what does the monetary loss of Sammy Davis, Jr. or Johnny Carson, or the British Government, for that matter, have to do with the qualities of the car. Nothing! This drival should simply be ignored, as hard as that is. He got a couple of things right. The electrics were, at best, full of idiosychransies and were powered by an alternator that left much to be desired. And, whle I wouldn't call the engine anemic, we all pretty much agree that the DeLorean could use more power. But, come on, the rest of the article was on demented man's opinion. At least he is bright enough to know how to cause a furor and that's what keeps him in his job. Three weeks ago I set out on a road trip with three other DeLoreans. We, the four couples, covered a combined mileage in excess of 16,000 miles in two weeks. We traveled many, many days for 400+ miles at 80+ miles an hour. Not bad for 18 year old cars. And, I was more comfortable and rested at the end of those days than if I had driven my 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. And he says the car is not comfortable. Since we are not in a position to have him committed to the looney bin, the next best step is to pretend he doesn't exist. (To our UK friends, I know that you have different feelings about this, and I respect that.) So what? As you say it is still a very interesting car that draws alot of attention and will probably only continue to increase it value.
