Tom, I hope some experts will respond to your inquiry, I am not one. However you asked for input and here is mine. I be inclined to go with the hot dip since it is thicker, I would not be concerned about the added weight. That said, you will have to plug the many screw holes in the frame or retread them when the coating is finished, probably not an easy task either way. I would also apply some sort of paint to the finished frame to further protect the new coating and to make it match the original frame color as close as possible.
