"The salt (or whatever formulation which is used on the roads) even attacked some of the lower-grade (303) stainless steel items." Just a reminder ... stainless steel is not corrosion proof. It is especially sensitive to chlorides (such as the salts used on roads) and can develop holes via corrosion. The higher the SS number the less sensitive to chlorides.
