Put some silicone grease on the threads of the bleeder valve if you are using the vacuum pump. This helps you keep from sucking air in through the loosened threads. Last time I did it, I just put a clear plastic line on the bleeder and used that to twist open and closed the bleeder valve. Remember, open as they step down and close it before they let up!
