Thanks to everyone who replied. I'll try to answer your questions.
I'm 98% certain it's not coming from the base of the dipstick tube. I've looked at it and felt around there and found it to be dry. The leak seams to be "oozing" out around the gasket itself on the pan, collecting around the edges, and then dripping off towards the back end.
When I had the pan off before, I did check to make sure the mating surface was flat. It seemed pretty flat around the bolt holes. I suppose I could try pounding it flatter, but I'm looking for a more "guaranteed" solution of fixing the leak.
I know for certain I don't have the tranny computer o-ring leak. Removing the harness was why I was in there in the first place, and when I put it all back together I paid close attention to that. Still observing it now, and I don't see or feel any leaking fluid from there.
I do not recall any copper crush washers either in the old removed gasket or in the new one I put on. I can say for certain that they aren't in the newest gasket I want to put on.
I guess my question boils down to: is there any reason I shouldn't use a permatex sealant/RTV seal of some sort (as John suggested) when installing my new gasket? If so, does anyone have an
interesting solution to it other than "do a frame mod and put a manual in"? (as much as I like stick, I'd rather not head that way).
Thanks,
-Kevin
