Richard is correct. 

However,  in addition, they REPEATEDLY talk about how this SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the cost of manufacturing this car. 

JZD costs for making the DMC 12 so thousands of dollars LESS than automotive manufacturing techniques in the 1980s.   

These low JZD manufacturing costs is another reason why the big boys had to put JZD out of business.  In the long run he would have beaten them.
