When my clutch went too soft, I had to refill the system with Dot4 fluid. I think, you should check this first. Then the master cylinder. As I heard, if any of the cylinders is bad, it is better to replace all two in the same time. BTW how firm the clutch must be? My car's clutch is quite firm, not like the new cars clutch.
